Thank you for this video. My saw falls flat on its face and dies at wot. This will be one more thing i check.

I didn't know that it should leak-off vacuum like that. I have a 028 Wood Boss that I did a pressure and vacuum test on. It holds both. The symptom is, will only run with mix poured into carb. (I also suspect that it is pulling chain bar oil into the crankcase. Thanks for all the great videos!

That's interesting about the bar oil. It would require a crack or a gasket failure. If your cylinder pressure is good you don't have a leak. Your cylinder is one pressure and your fuel is a different pressure system

@@the1chainsawguy I understand now, I was confused at first. I tested my pressure at the impulse tube and it held pressure and vacuum. Now I need to test at the fuel inlet tube to check the vent and etc. I got this saw used, not running. I couldn't pass it up as it showed hardly any wear on the outside and has good compression. Came with an awesome Stihl case too. As it runs, it smokes like crazy and fills the muffler with oil. So, I guess that either the previous owner filled the gas tank with oil at some point or its sucking oil from the tank. Thanks again for your help!

Its crazy. We typically don't think like that. I never considered it before. I am working on an 025 with an engine that was sticky, then it dried to cement like and it stopped up the impulse. Where that came from who knows. So that is a second time something like that has occurred. So as a saw builder we think differently that most because we see how the saw is put together and I think that has really helped me trouble shoot a tricky problem. thanks for watching

i couldnt get mine runni g either until i put an oem trigger assembly & oem choke lever. apparently the farmertec doesn't have the high idle setting in between the choke & run as a stihl does. it solved my problem. mine fires right up & i use it regularly.

It should be pretty evident if the tank vent is not working because the saw will not run but a few minutes before the internal vacuum will overcome the impulse line pressure and the saw will die for lack of fuel. My saw will run 2 hours at idle, so I do not have this problem with my 660 kit saw. I did have to replace the short fuel line from the tank fitting to the carb because it had a hole in it but that was it. I still do not like the carb but if you can get it to start it is OK but it is a bitch to start. It really only knows how to pop and yank the starter handle out of my hand. However, it starts with one pull when my big friend pulls it. I have a Husqvarna deco valve in it. I ought to replace it with a Stihl deco valve and I will when I win the lottery.

Hi, I have just built a farmertec 660 but it is a bitch to start. I checked the plug and the electrode looks like I carburized it with a torch but the end of the plug was clean. It is a BPR7A gaped at .020. I have about 3 tanks on it. I tried leaning out the L but it won't run with much leaning out.

John older we get the harder it is for us to start a big saw. If it's more than that get the Walbro wj-76 @ mittysupply.com. with that carb you could put a 1mm cylinder gasket on it and that would make it easier to start. And use best non ethanol fuel you can buy.
@the1chainsawguy

Also put the oem decompression valve on it so you don't have to press it each pull. That in itself makes it easier to start up.

@@the1chainsawguy I run one gallonpremium non -ethanol with 75ml of Stihl Ultra plus one ounce of Brigg's AFT fuel stabilizer as my two cycle mix for everything. I mix everything clinically and measure it all. I have a Husky deco valve and all controls are oem Stihl. It does not like to restart and it will try to drag you back into the starter on occasion. It is running much to rich. I think the carbon buildup on the electrode is causing it to fire out of time and pop me. The jets are about 2+ turns out and the idle is about 2,600. I am going into the car, today, and look at the hiegt of the needle lifter. The Chinese just love to set it to high. I know I am getting long in the tooth, but I crank my ms-391, 271 and 029 with no difficulty. These are not baby saws.

What happens when it idles and you roll it on it's side? Both sides? It sounds like a fuel problem or a combination. Are your testing like I show? Check the head bolts for tightness too. Did you check the fuel system vacuum? Let me know

@@98fishingfool ok something is not right. Pressure should hold, vacuum will drop. Take a look at it from that perspective. Most obvious thing is the fuel line will check everything else out real close. Check the grommet i refer to in this video.

@the1chainsawguy

@@98fishingfool sounds like the tune is off and that could be due to an issue with the carb OR you might retune and start the high side 1/4 turn futher out. So if you put them @ 1 turn out. Next time 1 turn out on low and 11/4 turn out on high and then try 11/2 and see what the result is.
