@@parrotcracker6629 I’m mad at a political systems of left and right. A holes left in charge of the education system that allows rainbow flags to be waved and our own country flag to be taken down. NM high schools allow some drag queen to parade around as if it was normal. But a kid can’t parade her own culture that is defined by who they are and what they honor including the education they received. That regalia she was wearing wasn’t just some fancy get up, it was especially made to honor the school as a thank you for taking time out to educate and to allow our children to be apart of this ceremony. It wasn’t maga hat or a rainbow alphabet hat. It was to honor the school and teachers, it was saying this is the graduate they created, thank you. It also honored our warriors that fought in WW2. They fought for this country even though it never truly understood them. They fought for a country that hates them and they fought proudly and saved this country including you. As for the logo comment, it’s the only time white and black people truly didn’t mind anything Native American to be worn proudly. At least we could have that. That’s what it has to do with the graduation. I’m sure if it was a pro humas flag it would have been fine. These kids are heading to the colleges that allow the American flag to be burned I’m sure that would have been acceptable. So basically it was a big thank you New Mexico schools for hating my expression, culture and my honor to you because you took it away. I’m sorry it wasn’t some guy gyrating like a woman at a prom. Hey New Mexico government you’ll never get to be California go there be well or don’t, not sure what you’ll be offended by.

We Native Americans don’t just honor ourselves as humans and try to be famous. We honor those who help us as well. We honor the constitution for the laws that protect our culture. We also honor our ancestors who fought to keep our culture alive by staying alive. We honor our ww2 warriors who saved this country and allowed you to be born under the laws of this country. As for the logo, it was the only time anyone ever said anything about native Americans proudly. Multi color flags and burning of our own will be for another day I guess. The State of New Mexico allows Native Americans to express themselves through culture and religion and even encourages this expression. But, they leave discretion to the school district and ultimately to the school board. So, a school board can state that no alterations are allowed to graduation attire, but they can also make exceptions, due to the New Mexico law, that pertain to Native American cultural/religious expression. How and why the school board purposefully denies Native Americans the right to express themselves is what the issue revolves around. Moreover, the American Indian and Religious Freedom Act, which is a federal law, prohibits any Federal, State, Tribal, and local government or public entity from prohibiting the free exercise of Native American cultural traditions and religious activities including language, ritual, and ceremony. Also, Title IX prohibts schools from violating any students rights based on religion, race, gender, disability, and ethnicity. All together, the argument to as why this is happeneing sides on the school district not respecting Native cultural/religious expression and violating several federal laws. The parents should sue and get the law clarified and this dishonorable actions corrected.

@southwestgrind2587 I see it every year. Hundreds of students wear traditional clothing from Hawaiian, to Penay, to Ukrainian, to Samoa to Irish, they all wear traditional clothing and items. It seems only the Native American tribes seem to be targeted. I witnessed a Hawaiian valedictorian give her address in her Native tongue then in English once and no one at the school was against it. But I garuantee Farmington would've. Farmington is a border town that has a very bad racial past. Read, The Broken Circle, and the next town over of Aztec is a sundowner town. There are still underlying tensions towards anyone not white there in farmington nm.
