------------------------------------------------
Louise Farrenc (née Dumont) was a composer and virtuoso pianist who held the post of piano professor at the Paris Conservatory for 31 years. She was a pupil of Reicha and her early compositions won praise from such figures as Schumann, and she was recognised as a first-rate composer.
Though she wrote piano pieces throughout her life, it is the chamber music that consistently demonstrates the quality of her inspiration. This clarinet trio is elegantly mid-century Romantic and resembles Mendelssohn in its twinkling piano figures in the outer movements, while the stately minuet is offset by a lushly lyrical slow movement.
