The laughing scene is so heartbreaking when you understand the context. This guy just found out his father is a world destroying monster, he's trapped in a foreign land he can never leave, and the world he knew was decimated a thousand years ago. Then this girl who knows that her quest ends in her death, knows that everywhere she goes she's seeing it for the last time, knows that she will never see the peace she's going to bring, and that even with all that sacrifice, the threat will come back. Ultimately even her death is a temporary measure. So what do they do? They make themselves laugh. Even when there's nothing to laugh about. Even when it feels like everything is falling apart around them, one of the most well defended places in the world was just attacked. Nothing and nowhere is safe until they complete their journey. So they laugh. Because in the face of impossible odds and unending suffering, you have to stay positive.

I don't think he finds out about any of that until you get to Zanarkand. He's kinda tone deaf in that scene since he doesn't even know that Yuna is going off to die.
@CPhrost

@Dangerous_Leon this scene happens right after they leave Luca which is where Auron joins the party, and tells Tidus that Sin is Jecht and that it came to Luca to see him play. And yes Tidus doesn't know that Yuna will die on the pilgrimage, he learns that later in Home. But she knows it.

FFX's world, lore and general aesthetic made me feel a sense of immersion that I've never experienced in any other game since then. Playing through it, I remember being completely absorbed in the world of Spira. I wanted to know everything there was to know. In a sense Leviathan was added in the game just not as a Aeon (a bit of a missed opportunity but maybe it was because they didn't think about it or there just wasn't enough space for it 😢) but if you look at Tidus's Brotherhood sword very closely you can kind of see Leviathan's face on the hilt, also the sword looks like it's made out of water so perhaps that was intentional

I've learned so many cool things through your videos, and it's especially nice to get these tidbits that don't easily fit into a larger topic. I don't have any strong feelings about the length. In a way, it can be nicer for them to be shorter, since the format means there's less of a reason to actually sit down and watch it. But on the other hand...I often end up watching multiple at once, especially if I'm watching while working or eating, so ultimately it makes no difference. Whichever feels better to make to make, then, as I'd love to see more of these kinds of videos!

The whole point of the laugh scene is that it IS unpalatable. Tidus just found out he dad that he thought was dead is actually the monster that destroyed his home city and regular wipes out towns/cities around the world. Yuna tells him she practices laughing when she's sad because summoners represent hope...and she's 17. Even in the scene, it's cringe. Yuna tells Tidus he should probably stop and he doesn't so she joins him.

The Tidus and Yuna laughing scene feels like some bizarre bubble of societal autism. The context is incredibly clear, it's forced fake laughing because everyone is depressed, only Tidus doesn't understand Yuna is going to her death, so he alone starts a dumb joke of forced laughing to cheer her up. Such a silly action in the face of Yuna's sacrifice actually made her laugh and it successfully cheered her up a bit, then both Tidus and Yuna laugh for real. And yet the accusation is it's bad voice acting and they can't do laughs? how could that narrative possibly have been spread, it's sickeningly obvious what's going on and yet a lot of people are oblivious to it to very extreme levels, I can't even begin to comprehend how people can interpret it any differently to the way it is.

The misunderstanding of the laughing scene, especially with so much post game context at this point, really shows me people do not understand how to pay attention or comprehend a situation. Whether its from failure to empathize with a situation, or they just never lived something like that themselves, it's disappointing how many people missed the point. At this point JAT has made numerous videos breaking down the scene and explaining the content, direction for the shoot, and etc. kzitem.info/news/bejne/zIiNx5ZmqmuSqmk&pp=ygUlamFtZXMgYXJub2xkIHRheWxvciB0aWR1cyBsYXVnaCBzY2VuZQ%3D%3D
