When a designer dies, who takes over their fashion house? Is that new person obligated to remain faithful to the original designer's vision? Was Chanel more successful under the direction of Karl Lagerfeld than when it was under Coco Chanel herself? Does this make Chanel simply the name of an abstract brand rather than something closely tied to its original conception? I'm not interested in who legally owns what; I'm curious about how brands evolve over time. I love all of your videos. I wasn't that interested in fashion until I learned all of these things from you. Thank you, and congrats on your success!

you can feel from the clothes how different this century of fashion will be from the last, which is wild because these were designed in january, but it's also bang on because in 1920 you can see the same kind of shifts taking place. these loose shapes and neutral colours are futuristic but in an accommodating way, definitely great for anyone with sensory issues (me). i love that utilitarian and loose-fitting clothing has found beauty again.

When I was in college I had a pair of "carpenter" jeans and a pair of cargo pants that looked terrible on me, but I wore them anyway because they had big functional pockets. One day they launched "skinny cargo pants" but those were a scam because either the pockets were fake, or the fabric was so tight that nothing fit inside them. I hope the functionality trend will bring us better pockets.
@justineleconte

pockets are a general problem in womenswear, they are always smaller than the same pockets on menswear pieces... and it doesn't make sense anymore, in today's world.

When i was in my late teens, my mother gave me several pairs (new, never worn) general utility khaki pants, that my nan found at the back of the wardrobe. They were unused uniform issue from his army days.. I liked the rubber buttons lol. But. They had pockets! deep and roomy in the bottom area. Decent leg length. I would pair it with a tight black t-shirt. My mother always carried on about dresses having pockets.. when I was younger I didn't understand the concept. I do now😊😊😊

When everyone was wearing cargo pants I bought mine from an army surplus store here in the UK. They were black and really well made and yes the pockets were huge compared to what I was used to! The fabric also had a nice weight to it so they sat nicely. I wore mine with tiny crop tops and big boots all through college! They were so comfy. I do like the silky fitted versions we have seen more recently but they do make me long for my old cargo pants although they wouldn't fit now and I definitely wouldn't be seen out in a crop top anymore!

I am not exaggerating at all when I say a pair of my son's 3 month old sized jeans had larger pockets than my pants. Why?? He's an infant! He can't even use his hands and anything that could fit in those pockets he'd choke on.

This fall trends overview is fun, informative, &, as always, inspiring. I love that luxury loungewear is now actually practical. Love your comment about taking the loungewear from bed to a Zoom meeting. I did a weird version of that last summer: I couldn't find a comfortable nightgown for hot nights, so I bought a voluminous linen dress at a Muji sale. It's very comfortable for sleeping, & I can actually wear it for meetings & even outside if I want to. This will also come in handy if there's an earthquake in the middle of the night (I am, after all, in LA in 2020)!

Congrats on 800k!! I have been a subscriber since 2017, almost 3 yrs now! You taught me so much! I haven't regreted any purchase since! I can spot quality much faster. Since then I did buy only five jeans, one sweater, two cardigans, two swimming suits, one t-shirt and shorts. And all of it was planned and not rushed and it could all so easily fit in with the rest of the clothes I already own, it is just amazing! Btw most of that was second hand too. I got a pair of dark beige - creme shorts like I always wanted! And thanks to you I now know which colours look good on me and how to combine colours with one another and it has opened up a whole new world for me! You taught me that I can have both comfort and beauty, I no longer feel like a tomboy Also you introduced me inti Kibbe's body type system which was groundbreaking for me and helped me to finally feel confident in my style and no longer feel like I have to change my whole wardrobe to fit into society It feel like I am talking only about myself, but I wanted to just guve examples of why your success is so well earned! Congrats from heart! And here is hoping your line goes so well that us bustier ladies can get something from it too 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 Merci

Wonderful to watch as always and so informative. That Ellie Saab red coat..... and the Ellie Saab blouse. I remember in the early eighties, late seventies Shree Indian shops stocked to the hilt with such beautiful ornate cotton blouses many with Edwardian neck lines. Absolutely gorgeous. It seems to be true that if you wait long enough a look comes back into fashion again and in so many ways these trends seem very early eighties to me.....nipped waist, full sleeves, drapey coats. A time that also harked back to a romantic past. The eighties just before power dressing came in. I love it!

I too am a huge lover of linen! It’s the best fibre for Australian climates, and where I am (Queensland) is very similar in climate to Florida. I’ll wear cotton in a pinch, but I try to avoid polyester at all costs! Nothing worse that being wrapped in plastic when it’s already hot and humid! Though I do miss not being able to make use of the gorgeous wool fabrics I see used in the Northern Hemisphere.

I really enjoy the updated nods to the past, especially the chino pants and the bulky sleeves. The puffy sleeves look strangely adorable, to me they remind me of the Renaissance period. I love it when fashion is bold and makes the unexpected current again and introduces playful new silhouettes. I think structure and the silhouette is usually more stimulating than just new little details here and there. Btw how flattering the navy colour looks with your complexion, lately I've become obsessed with navy, especially paired with black/camel/burgundy.

I love your thoughts on fashion. Fashion is a symphony of parts from fabric, design, making, quality, more natural fibers, color. I use fashion trends a reference for silhouette, colors and less as a trendy playbook. So full pants and skinny are always in my closet to reflect my mood, or nod to current choices, or functionality. When I ride a bike casually, a skinny pant, more blouson top. With a taller heel boot, fuller pants. And the final judge is my body. I am 5'2". Proportion in silhouette and print matters. If it doesn't enhance my body...no. I am less concerned about age appropriate. My leanings towards quality fabric, sewing are not so 'fast fashion' but maybe more costuming. Like 70's today, Jil Sander tomorrow, country linen on a summer day, skinny pants moto...Congrats! Keep healthy!

Hey Justine, congrats on 800k!!! I recommend your videos whenever I can. You cover a wide range of topics so they are easily sharable :) I am glad that fashion seems to be getting more simple and cousy.m, and yet at the same time complex. I have noticed that more and more people are into knitting and custom made. Also trifting and retailoring odl or second hand clothes. I think it is amazing! I think that the market is looking for a designer that works with discarded clothes. Most of the things we donate ends up in a landfil as waste. That is hugepotential wasted! And is so terrible for the environment! Would something like that even be legal?

There are some designers that work with fabric rests on a small scale (e.g. Marine Serre). There are also brands starting to work with plastic bottles (recycled into fabric, but you need huge production volumes & they often developtheir own process in house). And recently, there are fabric suppliers starting to offer this kind of fabric to design houses - that's when we'll reach the point where it is "mass"-compatible without an exorbitant price tag. So it will come more and more!

@@justineleconte Thanks, I will look up that name! Yeah, I heard about trainers made out of recycled plastic, and the prices are waaaaay over my price range

I really enjoy your trend analysis. The voluminous shapes almost look like armour. It’s interesting how it does feel relevant up until now.

I love the ruffles and the idea of a dress you can sleep in and still wake up and go into a Zoom meeting looking good 😆

Dior never disappoints me. My first Barbie wore a Dior inspired outfit because my dear mother loved Dior. Thanks for your research Justine, and congratulations!

I always love watching your videos. They are very informative and helpful specially for me who is also working in the retail fashion industry and in a travel retail environment. I hope you can also create the kind of video for men. I really live how you explain everything as it is clear and non bias.

Am I the only one who is looking into colors rather than earthy? That being said: so happy to hear minimalism and maybe skinny jeans are on the way out, they have become such a basic girl must have that they have lost whatever charm they had (not that skinny jeans ever held any for me). Give me colors, give me patterns! I am absolutely loving the McQueen winter collection, bold shapes, bold colors! bold and shiny fabrics all done in a tasteful way but the McQueen tasteful way!. *chef kiss*

Justine, God bless you and your ability to work through the process of breaking down what is going on in the garment industry, and explaining it so clearly. I understand your though process and I think you are a genius at this because you make what is a complex industry and describe it in simple terms. The genius is in how smoothly and simply you teach this subject; you make is so easy. Thank you for all your hard work putting this video together. You have done a fine job. Keep at it, there is no one like you who can do this right.
