A few years ago I made a rapid crystallization video based on the great difference in solubility of potassium nitrate (KNO3) in hot water compared to cold water. Potassium nitrate is said to have a very steep solubility curve. Because the KNO3 is a fairly difficult product to obtain, I have looked for other, more affordable alternatives.
Common salt or sodium chloride (NaCl) has an almost horizontal solubility curve, so it is not useful for this experiment.
I am going to carry out the rapid crystallization of copper (II) sulfate, CuSO4, and alum, which is potassium aluminum sulfate, KAl(SO4)2, since they have quite steep solubility curves.
