Also known as LFA17 (Low Flying Area 17), the Lake District is one of the UK’s designated military low flying areas.
You’d be forgiven for thinking the ‘Mach Loop’ (LFA7) is the best place to be for low flying fast jets, but after an ‘incident’ a few years ago with an RAF Eurofighter Typhoon, the RAF have ceased to fly the majority of their aircraft - particularly their fast jets - through the loop.
Furthermore, if you want to see the likes of Eurofighter Typhoons and F-35B Lightnings flying low-level, The Lakes are your best bet!
The video features footage from two days in two different viewpoints. The first two aircraft flying through are Typhoons from 41 Squadron - based at RAF Coningsby. Unfortunately the lead jet was so unexpectadly low I was only able to film his wingman… You can just about make out the lead jet in the wide-angle video after it (typically, of course, it had 41 Sqn markings).
The next clip is of a Hawk T.2 based at RAF Valley.
And finally, as seen in a previous video, the Belgian F-16 Fighting Falcons during their spell at RAF Waddington for Exercise Cobra Warrior.
