Hi Robin. Of all your films this is my favourite,. You would be surprised just how many times I've watched it. Although an extreme it does perfectly illustrate that parts of the Broads have to be respected and is great to show to newcomers. Although I did have a friend who after seeing it refused to go anywhere near Gt. Yarmouth in a boat!

Done this many times. I know it's not right, and should wait for the tide. But I love it.

Been there and got the T-Shirt . Was glad I had boating experience though as the tidal flow was awesome and had to concentrate fully .

Excellent video. My brother and I have done this on a yacht without an engine, obviously only possible with the tide. We towed the 28ft boat using the rowing dinghy against the tide so if moving at say 1 knt through the water when the tide was running at 3 knts our speed over the ground would be 2 knts stern first. This causes a good deal of confusion and I can well imagine seeing us emerge stern first through a bridge must have been a novel and unwelcome sight for a cruiser. Our method mimics the way it used to be done by putting a mud weight over the bow and letting it drag along the bottom of the river. Before the Breydon bridge was built, with a decent breeze, ideally from the North one could take the ebb down the Bure and make good progress against the tide up the Yare

Used to go on the Broads for years. One time we were going in same direction as this film. Ebb tide just before slack water. 2 large wooden boats filled with School Children were coming down on the ebb towards Braden Water out of control. Not a way to teach children! If I hadn't had the experience to avoid them, they would have hit us. Reversed just in time then quick forward full thrust.

I was wondering just how far ahead of low water that you made this journey? The water seems very low but the flow is (obviously) really quick

Always hire a yacht, so wonder if a tried tacking up the Bure with that flow, what would happen. Mind you, if I was coming the other way, you'd be in for a surprise.
