In this short film that I shot for five years, the Kaliningrad region is presented in an unusual form - like the prairies of North or the pampas of South America, on which herds of long-running wild horses live.
Of course, the horses I have captured cannot be called mustangs in the full sense of the word, since they are still domestic animals, but many of the horses that have been shot herds live all year round in vast fields where they have offspring and in this sense they have freedom .
During the filming of herds of horses, I noted many interesting points in the interaction of the drone with horses. So, for example, horses often at the sight of an approaching drone begin to approach him while actively shaking their heads up and down, which in itself looks funny, as if the horses express their positive mood when meeting with a previously unseen flying object.
One of the small herds learned how to interact with the drone - as soon as I started approaching these horses, they rushed at a gallop and after such a sports run of one kilometer, they quietly stopped and examined the flying drone, although this was not observed at initial encounters, and the horses in other places rather preferred to slowly move through the fields, calmly looking at a large "fly".
Often the horses behaved like moose - they approached and carefully examined the drone, and one growing foal even constantly and actively pursued the drone, so it cost me a lot of work to shoot, without exposing the foal to the risks associated with the collision.
Shooting horses from a drone brought me many new experiences and discoveries. Unlike shooting any other animals, shooting horses at large is the most active, dynamic and requiring high skill in managing a drone. Horses are capable of developing sufficiently high speed and since shooting is carried out from the lowest possible height, it is necessary to constantly monitor the possibility of collision with foreign objects when flying at high speed with high maneuverability and the need to keep the subject in the camera’s field of view, that is, be both a pilot and a camera operator .
Many people rightly consider horses to be one of the most beautiful and graceful animals. The sight of multi-colored, running horses in picturesque fields and valleys only confirms this statement ...
