Had to add another comment. Made it last night for 5 of us in the family adding only one more heaped tablespoon of mango chutney. It was feckin' delicious! All raved about it and I had my pint of Guinness too. This b'jasus is one of the best curries I've made and had. All down to you Al. Slainte (cheers in Irish). And thanks!

Being a lowly Sassenach I don't ever recall seeing this curry on menus in the curry houses I have used south of the border. So I thought I would give it a try and cooked this last night and it was amazing. The mango chutney and mint sauce remarkably come through the other flavourings to create a delicate sweet and sour effect. Great stuff Al, can't thank you enough for all the good stuff you create. To continue the Scottish theme I'm having the leftovers deep fried for lunch. Joke...ok. Thanks again Al.

Al was gracious to like to a comment I made about when curry came to my home city (Glasgow) in the 1950's. It planted the thought in my mind that - as subscribers and fellow curry lovers - we could all share memories of when the nation's favourite food rocked up wherever you live? We are blessed in Glasgow to have a large Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi population, so we've grown used to having the most incredible food available 24/7. Plus, we could share recommendations for visitors to our fine abodes? In Glasgow, Mother India, Swadish, Mr Singh's, and The Anarkali (on the southside) are fabulous! You'd struggle to get a bad curry in Glasgow, but no harm in offering some advice to others as a wee heads up ...!

I've just prepared a fusion of your original chasni recipe from 5 years ago and this, your fastest family chicken chasni. I've even bought the cast iron wok. I did have my doubts about tomato ketchup, mango chutney and mint sauce but, this is quite simply the curry of the gods. You are right about the red food colouring too, the effect on the dish is spectacular but, don't get it on your fingers!

I've made the patia one again yesterday for today's curry night which will save me a wad of money. I'm looking at purchasing some chaffing dishes so we can replicate the good old curry buffet nights that so many people have been to and this and the rest of these bulk dishes would be perfect for a indian buffet themed night. Alex wilki is a great cook and as taught me loads over the year's aswell. Cheers al top bloke 👍 👏 👌 🙌

Al, thanks for the advice on cooking out the onions, I made your Pathia a few weeks back and unfortunately it was inedible because I didn't let the onion cook long enough. Will most definitely be trying the Chasni as it looks delicious. A little tip for your Guinness Nitrosurge cans by the way (a guy that I know who works for Guinness here in Ireland told me) - when taking them from the fridge, pop them into the freezer for 5 - 10 minutes for the perfect pint temperature. Don't worry, it should still retain a perfect pour and a perfect head whilst still tasting even more delicious.

Hey Al. Glasgow's Curry awakening was in 1959 (ish) when my Dad and his best Man were both at Glasgow Uni. They recounted that the quantity of the portions for the price saved them as students, as they were always skint. Both of the originals - the Shish Mahal and the Koh-i-Noor had to relocate from their original locations in Gibson Street (beside the Uni) due to subsidence. Sadly the Koh-i-Noor eventually closed down. The Shish still operates in Park Road in the West End to my knowledge ...

Hey just out of interest years ago there was a curry house just down and opposite from Kelvin grove gallery that the lead singer and another member of the band Franz Ferdinand worked in,was that the koh I Noor? I've forgotten the name of it and it's bugging me as the last time I was in Glasgow was years ago and I was that shocked by the demolition of the western infirmary I forgot to check 😢
@paulmellon7598
Жыл бұрын
@@hoping67 It wouldn't have been the Koh-i-Noor as the original Gibson Street location is quite a distance from Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum. Possibly the Ashoka (now also relocated to Finnieston) or Mother India - both nearby? As an aside, the Koh-i-Noor had about as bad luck as you can get. Sometime in the late 1970's, (when my Dad first started taking us there) its extended restaurant collapsed into the River Kelvin, forcing the move to the Charing Cross area of the city centre. During some questionable renovation work, an adjacent building toppled onto it in 1996. A 17 year legal battle with the City Council ensued, and although the Koh won the case, in the end, all the damages were swallowed up by the insurance company - hence the 2nd of Glasgow's original (and phenomenal) curry houses was forced to close.

There's only 3 places I go to get my spices. Cavendish, where the old Cavendish pub used to be, Sainsbury's Kingsway and that new 24hr place on Burton Road same side as Gerard's chippy. I have a packet of Kashmiri Chili powder and although I can't remember exactly where I got it, it'll be from one of them three places 👍🏻 I THINK it was Sainsbury's as it was only a small packet... I'm thinking If I'd got it from the other two places being Asian supermarkets I'd have gone for a big pack.
