The funny thing is that the concept was originally from Buick and they had put a GNX engine in an S-10 and pitched the idea to Chevrolet since Buick didn't have a truck model of their own and the brass at Chevrolet passed because they already had the 454 SS. The GMC brass felt that the GN engine was too expensive to use so they opted to use off the shelf stuff.

Those trucks used the Astro all wheel drive mini van drivetrain, 4.3 V6 water cooled Mitsubishi turbo. Trucks we're living limited to 700 lb cargo and passenger. The GMC Jimmy 2dr version upped it to 900 lb passengers and cargo. Suspension was lowered 3" from the factory. The best gas mileage I got was 10mpg in the Cyclone and Typhoon respectively summer of winter. The Typhoon had fantastic traction in the rain even with wide tires. ABS brake system was also great in the wet. I never liked cheapy plastic ground effects from the factory so I had mine painted body colors. Black on the Typhoon and white on the cyclone.

I owned both the 91 syclone and the 92 typhoon. I managed over $3000 in speeding tickets my first two years of driving and 6 suspensions. If that S10 has a T-5 it's the same bolt pattern as an LS4. You'll have to mod it for a starter but, that's a great platform to build on. Get the body lift and mud tires off there, get a body kit and some rims. Have yourselves a mean street truck. 706/862 heads will make more power on a 5.3 than the 243 heads, swap a TBSS intake, go with a mean cam with a tight LSA, headers for n/a or just right to a sloppy stage 2 cam and ebay turbo/s. You'll be able to waste a Syclone for half what that project truck cost.
@hendo337

I was under the impression Motor Trend got 0-60 in 4.9s out of the Sy, the '89 Turbo TA did 0-60 in 4.7s, the GNX ran 0-60 in 4.9s and the GMC Typhoon ran 0-60 in 5.3s. It'd be cool if you fellas swapped either a 4200 Atlas I6 (Nivlac57 style) or an Aluminum block LS (5.3/5.7/6.0/6.2) with a big nasty turbo in that thing. I don't have a lot of love for the 4.3L V6, you might as well go with a stronger platform with more potential for the cost. Excellent choice for the channel, much love. Keep up the good work fellas.
