New season, new video.... with kind permission of landowner Stephen Galvin The original Fastest Silage EVER video (2014) is here: • Fastest silage EVER - ...
Thank you for a great clip! I am now using this to teach university students about the "craziness" of logistics

Birds do that because the tractor and bailer stir up bugs as they pass. It makes for a quick meal for the birds

@@davidepool5884 One year I was doing this and a neighbour came and hired me to come do his field as it was his first year farming and he didn't have the equipment. For some reason his field was overrun with vol mice and I must have killed several hundred if not thousands and the crows, gulls and ravens were in heaven!

I can understand backing up to place a bale near other bales, but what is the reason for backing at other times?
@luweyhei
8 жыл бұрын
+badlandskid i guess the field isn't even, and he places the bales on the even parts of the field, to prevent them from rolling down the hill
@kttatortots4293
5 жыл бұрын
This is a guess, but I think it's for when he transfer the bales from the chamber/bale maker to the wrapper section so they dont continue under gravity and roll off the baler without being wrappes

+Mattis Nyhuus LOL, dropped so hard.. just watched the 2014 version and rambled about him.. i'll bet hes the old timer of this farm, there always is the old timer.. one leg already in grave, blind as a bat but always he must have to get to the field.. at least to drive randomly here and there.. Our old timer went to the clouds (age87) this spring, and i'll bet he drives around with his ol' massey 135 there too... RiP grandpa. Let the massey cool down at least sometimes..

That isn’t silage. That is hay being bailed. Silage is chopped with a silage cutter. If they would have ran the hay through a silage cutter it would be called haylage. Haylage is grass type plants, silage is mostly corn and other types of plants, but mostly corn that is chopped while it’s still green and the corn 🌽 hasn’t completely dried out.

its cind of an ordinary round baler, but i have a BALEWRAPPER on same frame, so the bale roll from the baler to the wrapper, and is wrapd while the baler start making a new bale
@wildturkey5838

I believe you're making hay, not silage. Hay is allowed to dry in the field before being baled, silage is packed into silos or pits while it's still wet and allowed to ferment (which makes cows like it better, not ferment like fruit to make them drunk) ;)

No this is silage. They are silage bales and are wrapped in a plastic film similar to the ones used on silage pits in order for it to ferment. Silage pits and bales would not be very wet, they just to have enough moisture to ferment because if the grass was too wet, the grass inside would rot and fungus would grow.
@jameshayden6631
5 жыл бұрын
Hay, as you already stated would be turned a number of times and left for up to a week in order for there to be little to no moisture inside. These bales would not be wrapped. If you do wrap a hay bale you would produce haylage, sort of in between hay and silage. This is normally fed to horses with respiratory problems as they cannot eat normal hay. I hope this cleared this video up for you
@augustreil
5 жыл бұрын
Wild Turkey, You missed an important step in your hay theory, it was never tedded to dry. Therefore it's not hay, cause hay is dried down to a certain moisture content.
