Which new finding of the study surprised you the most?
@mordierenokse

What is most fascinating about the study is the way you could predict how the microbiome would turn out after the fast based on the prefast tests. Maybe one day we will be able to prescribe detailed diets for treating specific pathogenic microbiome profiles, potensially curing most diseases based on excessive food consumption.

I suffered with peptic ulcers as a child, frequent abdominal pain and reflux even on a vegan diet. I had horrible bouts of abdominal pain and nausea. My reflux medicine began making me feel nauseated and wasn’t working. My endoscopic biopsies showed was inflammation. I had taken probiotics for years and no antibiotics, no pain meds, no Advil or anything because medicine hurt. I was frustrated and decided I would try water fasting. I felt better in 48 hrs and kept going for 5 more days. I gave myself a couple IVs of normal saline throughout the week just to make sure I was hydrated enough. I have never taken another nexium. It’s been 8 years. If I begin to feel any pain, I fast for 2-3 days. I take critical digestion (digestive enzymes) at dinner and Ortho spore probiotic at bedtime. Never fast without seeing a medical provider but it was a miracle for me. Fasting can clear your mind and help reset your emotions. Fasting is our best medicine.

Thank you so much for sharing your personal experience. But please note that we do not recommend only water fasting, since it is very stressful for the body. According to the fasting method of our founder Dr. Otto Buchinger, you can also take in teas, juices and soups, besides water. Our scientific studies show that it boosts your energy and does not break the fast. Watch our video for the explanation here: kzitem.info/news/bejne/s2ydnJ5sb4qJdmU We wish you all the best! 🍀

It would have been great to detail like how Many hours (intermittent fasting), days etc needed & type of change in each. This would have helped non institutional fasting persons as well. Also, what type of change and if the çhange in diversity was temporary. Also, since microbiome is genetically linked, was it that the species worked better after fasting or was it a total change in species....Many environmental therapies go extreme to out do Genetic predisposition. Somehow controlling a disease or learning to use the disease ....both are different. Great study and useful information. Thank you.

Did you compare the difference between a pure water fast, and the mimicking “fasting”, where the subjects do stimulate their digestive tract by daily soups, and juice? Very interesting, hope you do an explanation about how long the fast would need to be when it becomes that sensitive (I have ony tried 18 hours max, since a bit afraid to get an reaction to trigger something when you lower your sensitivity), since it seems that alot of autoimmune symptoms come from a bad gut microbiome so alot of research recommend fasting for your gut microbiome to get the good bacteria but seem so many are more allergic or more sensitive towards vegetable rather then meat so they cut that out, which I think is kinda strange but totally understandable if you react more to vegetable all of the sudden. Also you said to rather eat vegetables when coming back after a fast but many say that you shouldn't do that since it is to much for the stomach due to the fiber? and since vegetables have some oxalate which can trigger an reaction, do you have any recommendation what kinds of vegetable would be okay? since if you can't eat meat after a fast which many recommend from other studies it's very confusing. Thank you for making these videos, very educational.

We can tell you now that the participants of the study fasted for 10 days. To undergo therapeutic fasting in our clinics, you should come for a minimum of ten days. That is the time you need for a digestive rest day before you fast, for the fast itself, and the refeeding phase after breaking your fast. A typical length of stay for therapeutic fasting at BuchingerWilhelmi is between two and four weeks. In individual cases, it can make sense to fast for a considerably longer time. Our doctors will discuss with you how long you should ideally fast when you arrive, or, if you prefer, in advance. We already published a video on how to properly break a fast, this should answer your question: kzitem.info/news/bejne/rH-PvaCfq51iiZw Also thank you for your kind feedback!

Honest question...how can both of these claims made in this video be true? 1) You tell us how beneficial and immune boosting this fasting period is when this healthy & thriving microbiome is feeding solely on tissue cells within our intestines. 2) Then you go on to tell us we have to wait weeks to "reintroduce" tissue cells (meat) into our diet because they're basically bad for our intestines and microbiome. I crave liver and ruminant meat (especially lamb) when I'm breaking an extended fast. I start by sipping homemade salted bone broth for an hour or so and then move on to medium rare low temp cooked salted ruminant meats and liver. I have been doing this for years and have had zero problems. Ruminant meat isn't the slightest bit inflammatory for me ever, fasted or not.

Start a little slower First month dejunk your diet and fast for only one 24 hour period a week. Slowly add time to your fasts. You can do potassium broth (vegetable broth) fasts at first before going on just water. Fat is where toxins are stored so with each bit of fat released it can affect you. There are herbal "teas" you can use to help ease your symptoms. Check your local health food store for nontoxic remedies, for head aches, insomnia, and constipation. Always make sure your getting enough water.
