Thank you. I'm new to Orthodoxy though I'm coming over from Roman Catholicism so these practices are not completely foreign to me. Your video explained a lot. Thank you again. IC XC NiKa ☦️

My heartfelt thanks to you Steve and Fr.Gregory..Seeing "my" beloved St Michael's church and listening to scripture by Steve (tho very familiar) and seeing dear Fr's face with prayers all became "new" and uplifted my evening. God Bless you both and keep you safe. Pleas extend my thanks to Matthew Owen. His web page with so many beautiful Orthodox church photos "worth the trip"..as they say.. In fact, I will return to his web site again.

Is there a book I can buy on the practice of yearly fastings, such as for days of the saints or every Wednesdays and Fridays? I really would like find a book that can help me stay on track, thanks

I can't think of a book right away, but most calendars you get at an orthodox church will have fast days noted on them. If you are just starting to fast, go slowly! I suggest starting with abstinence from meat on Wednesday and Fridays and see how that goes. After you have done this for a while add to that practice. But go slowly!!!

Albert It’s possible that Ancient Faith sells such a book. They have a pretty nice online store.

What is the name of that online book store? Just www.ancientfaith.com? I am in the classes at my orthodox church here in Candler, Northcarolina. I want to learn more about fasting..... fasting will be much easier for me, because I was raised a Seventh Day Adventist. No meat. Thank you for this video though. It was a start with wise words.

Hi Bonnie, You can get the Didechae on line. Just do a search for it and you will find it easily. It is a great resource for Christians.

If you are in good health I would say highschool age is good. But, better than that is to ask your doctor and priest (pastor) for advice.

Hello, I was wondering if ghee is an allowed cooking oil during the fasts?

I don't know what ghee is, so I can't give you an answer. Sorry! Thanks for the question though.

@@st.michaelsorthodoxchurchg5192 no problem! Ghee is clarified butter (the milk solids have been removed, leaving only oil behind).

Then I would say that if you are strictly following the fast concerning oils the ghee would not be appropriate. Always remember, there is the letter of the law and the SPIRIT of the law. I hope this helps.

If you are just learning, go slowly!! Don't try to keep all the fasting rules at once. Maybe only Wednesdays to start with, and when you are comfortable with that expand your fast bit by bit. And never forget the purpose of fasting. We fast to turn ourselves away from the world and turn ourselves toward the spiritual side of life. God Bless you and good luck.
