Minnesota Fat Biking in February is consistently pretty good, except for this. year. This February, the snow pack can be measured in inches rather than feet, if there even is any. The high temp today was supposed to top out at 30F which was making the day shape up to be decent for a ride. Once at the trailhead, the temp was sitting at 32F. Not always a problem since the ground is usually still pretty frozen. However, this year we've had crazy temps. Last week we even got into the fifties.
By the time I geared up and hit the trail it was still 32F. I had a little time since I was waiting on two friends to get there. I did a little pre-ride and the trails looked to be in decent shape at the moment. By the time Jim and Jay got there, it was still 32F but, the sun was out and starting to do its damage. The gravelly sections of the trail were absolutely great as was the shaded areas as you can see in the video. Once we got onto exposed dirt, the sun was turning it into a slick mess. We weren't leaving ruts but it was definitely greasy on the top. After a few miles, we decided to call it and head for a beer. Luckily, I got a couple of extra miles in before the boys arrived and while the trails were still decent. Oh well, beats working!
Thanks for watching! I appreciate it! Now, get outside!!
