When I was logging in Hoko camp for Rayonier back in 1962, the old loggers told me that in the days of highball logging, they would leave the top log off the last load so they could put the dead bodies on the top.

There're pics of a few dead men waiting to go out with last load of day. either on trucks or earlier on railway spur.....Hard time when a man goes out on job and waits to see if someone dies so his place can be taken....2X4's ain't cheap or easy to get.......

Stafford lake frazer bay i loaded this truck :Bob Bruce took the load down cash corner ,30 % grade .

been there, done that...truck weighed 50,000 empty, then add 200,000 pounds wood. 25 miles hour seemed like lightspeed.....off highway only obviously....Washington Olympic penn. 1970-84....

There's still some wood like that out there. Some is either impossible to get to or it's protected by a park.

250K on our job, unloader couldn't pick up mor'n that only reason it wasn't higher Washington st. 1970's....
