This effect can happen at sea aswell. It can create a false horizon making it look like ships on the horizon are floating in mid air. Or it can bend the horizon upwards and allow you to see further than normal

@@leorospigg4520 I’m not sure. However what I do know is that it is strongly believed that the mirage at sea is one of the reasons the lookouts in the Titanic didn’t see the iceberg in time.
