Definitely would love you to talk more about the other SNK fighting games like Ryuku No Ken aka/Art Of Fighting, Samurai Showdown, Last Blade etc. Garou Densetsu aka / Fatal Fury is my favorite fighting game franchise of all time. Broke the convention of having an Asian stoic shugyosha like martial artist to having an out going martial artist that's more the mold of a brawler and IMO the prototype MMA fighter. And the final boss fight against the Karate Gym Fighter (Takuma) was sooooo mystical! He had all your moves, but was twice as strong. He could charge his spirit twice as fast as you could charge yours. He could execute his special moves using half the spirit that you needed to do yours. It was very difficult to beat him unless you successfully landed the Hou-Ken (Super Death Blow) because it caused so much damage. He says, "In order to defeat me, you must master Hou-Ken". The stories that the games made by SNK are so good. that is one of the main reasons I love SNK games. They had great characters with their own interesting backstories and motivations. there was so much in depth lore that makes you love the characters even if the game wasn't as good. SNK took that basic block from the 1st Fatal Fury then went on to build on it with each upcoming sequel making the story more grandiose. The same for every other game that came after. Every SNK fighter they had made exist in the same universe albeit in different time periods (except for KOF that kind of exists in its own pocket universe). Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, Last Blade, Savage Reign, Samurai Showdown , Street Smart, KOF, etc. SNK out-marveled marvel before a shared universe was a thing. Too bad not a lot of people (especially in the west) know about SNK and how innovator and ahead of their time they were. just look at Terry's reveal on Smash Bros and how confused many people were about who he was. I'm glad that more famous youtubers like Top Hat Gaming Man and Maximillian Dude are shedding some light on this legendary company.

Hell, the Fatal Fury series never actually had a traditional "shoto" character until Ryo guest starred in Special, with Andy - a secondary character after Terry mind - being the closest approximation until then. The 2 on 1 versus battle was one of the most memorable moments of Fatal Fury for me. Truth be told, while FF was a competent game in itself, I hated the 2-lane system, and I never really warmed up to the rest of the game series until Garou: Mark of The Wolves (now that one really deserves a video of its own, that game is a masterpiece and one of the finest fighting games ever made), preferring instead The King of Fighters and Samurai Spirits. With that being said however, Geese Howard is one of my favourite characters ever, and Joe Higashi was one of my mains in KOF throughout the entire series, and Ryuji Yamazaki remains one of my favourite SNK characters alongside Geese. Samurai Spirits 2 was my first love in fighting games. I had played Street Fighter 2 previously, but it was Samurai Spirits 2 that really got me interested in the genre with its colourful graphics, excellent presentation, and for just being a lot of fun to play. If you're going to do another SNK retrospective, please do one on the Samurai Spirits franchise.

More Fatal Fury please! SNK were always like a sneaky, alluring Black Market publisher to me, as after getting my fill of Street Fighter 2 in the arcades I discovered SNK's games, a company and format I hadn't heard of. The many permutations of Fatal Fury rivaled SF in amount, and drew me in to this semi-secret series of games. They and the characters never seemed to be talked about in gaming mags, and so every time I saw a new arcade cabinet I wanted to see more of that world and it's characters. I never knew they were created by SF1's maker, but this fits as FF was like an alt version of SF2.

I'm a huge SNK fan. I'd love to see you dig into that catalog. The Real Bout games might be interesting given they are kinda quirky (preserves the multi-plane aspect) and a great follow on to this Fatal Fury coverage.

Really interesting video. Fatal Fury is actually my favorite fighting game series ever, and I actually bought a Neo Geo home system back in the day specifically for Fatal Fury 2 when it first released (got the original Art of Fighting at the same time also). I especially love the Real Bout Fatal Fury games, and while I don't know if there's enough info in those particular titles for a full video retrospective, SNK has a lot of great series that I'd love to see get the treatment, including the aforementioned Art of Fighting, Samurai Shodown, and of course, King of Fighters proper.

Geese Howard and Terry Bogard use pure Hakkyokuseiken as their fighting style (pronounce Ha-Key-Oh-Koo-Say-Kin). Tung Fu Rue also uses Hakkyokuseiken, but mixes in generic Kung Fu with it. Andy Bogard mixes Hakkyokuseiken's chi techniques with Shiranui-style Ninjutsu, which he and his girlfriend Mai Shiranui learned from Mai's grandfather Hanzo Shiranui.

The reviewer that trashed FF comparing it to SF2 is a dolt. He has no clue what a QCF is and is drinking that kool aid when Terry and Joe are far more appealing characters than the entire SF2 cast. Andy is lame though.

I would like an episode about the more obscure neo geo fighters. waku waku 7 and far east of eden, etc. Love seeing the deep dives into the classic fighters, but I much prefer when you give your own opinion and a modern take on the series compared to just reading reviews from when the game was released.

One thing I'd like to see are the really unknown fighters. I remember one fighting game back in the day where the fighter's life bars were replaced with a number counter that would tick down as you took damage, and also one of the fighters was a large cat like a jaguar or a puma or something like that. I dont remember the name of it though as I only saw it at one place.

Street Fighter Alpha 1 has Dramatic Battle mode, where two players can double team an opponent, usually based on Bison. Like Sagat's stage in Street Fighter Alpha 2, they were both based on Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie....yeahhhhhh.

@@chadbrick67 True. As long as you didn't live in the UK and buy the PAL version, which was stripped back to 24mb, less animation than FF2 vanilla and less characters than the 32mb overseas rendition of FF Special. Eh?

the real SF2 is Art of Fighting and that was done by the same team that made SF1; and you can see the continuist style: two characters to play, with the addition of those with more characters in VS mode. in addition to that it feels an evolution of the Gameplay of the SF1
