Things like this happen when "Search and Rescue" is the Priority! I know, I'm a Bad man for not thinking it is. Sorry, I tend to Think Things Through to get the Real Job done Fast and Safely! What was missing here? NO Thought! NO Planning! NO Escape Ladders! NO Water application on Visible Burning Material! NO Coordination of personnel and water application! Outside crew pushed fire into interior crew by filling the window which prevented the flames to vent. NO IDEA how to get the FFer out or PROTECT HIM once it hit the fan! The two window sashes were never removed. How could they get in or out with the sashes in the way. Not one Officer or fire fighter thought of that through the entire operation. Not ONE!. "My Real and First Responsibility is, PROTECTION!!!" You have to Protect victims inside and Protect the fire fighters going in by eliminating the Threat FIRST! If there is Visible Burning Material on the exterior or interior, you extinguish it and vent windows Before you go in which can be easily done before a team is Ready to go inside. When the flames are eliminated or mostly knocked down and the inside temperature has dropped by 1000 degrees in SECONDS, you break out windows from the outside to horizontally vent the interior and Then you go into a Much Safer and Survivable environment, for the victims and fire fighters. If you are sending fire fighters into upper floors, you set ladders at a number of windows and remove the sashes so they have a clear escape route. BEFORE or as they get to the upper floors! That was Not done here. @ The upper sash was never removed. That would have taken SECONDS if there was a Plan in place Before going up that ladder. If they knew the room was getting close to Flashover, then why didn't they hit the ceiling in that room with a straight stream which would have cooled the space immensely and prevented flashover? Was there a team inside with a hose eliminating flames while the search was going on? Was there a team inside with a hose while the fire fighter rescue was going on? Structure fires need planning, troubleshooting and calm execution, not Panic and Desperation! This and incidents like this should Never happen, but because of the Macho "Get inside and Search and Rescue" mentality in this country, this happens all too often and the American Fire Disservice NEVER learns from it. They will do it Exactly this way Next Time! And there Will be a next time! To change their tactics would be an admission of guilt so they will take a chance with Your life that this won't happen again. Sending condolences, which I of course do, will NOT change the ignorance in the American Fire Disservice! This video and the one after it TEACH the common sense way to approach Search and Rescue. It's out there and the American departments Do Not Listen! kzitem.info/news/bejne/yKdnmXiVh4SCfHo

RIP FF Chris Roy. Lesson: Put up ground ladders for egress BEFORE firefighters get trapped. All sides of the building should have been laddered at a 4th alarm fire.

Still doesn't change the fact that ground ladders weren't put up beforehand. Check Udizzy1969's raw video for proof. Let others learn from this tragedy so that it's not repeated, unless you have a problem with helping the fire service get better.
