Culprit problems….tire pressure, steering head bearings, warped brake discs, overloading or poorly distributed weight and or , in many cases large ship sail windshields! All bikes can be pushed by the wind. My Ninja 600 was the worse for it out of all the bikes I have owned, cause it was so light. My 2023 Ultra Limited carves through the wind way better but when the wind is gusting hard, even it moves around just doesn't seem as sketchy because of its weight. All bikes are effected by cross winds and it's the whole side profile of the bike and rider combined not just the wheels ...solid or not.

The solid wheels are better because they act like Gyros for the bike & keep it planted. It takes a huge wind to blast the Fat Boy off the road & especially so if a Fat Boy is riding a Fat Boy Bike. That's close to 950 LBS. depending on the person. Like those bikes without all the crap attached to them.

The amount of wind it would take to penetrate (giggity) the air being pushed around the wheel would be more of a concern for the bike and biker itself, as in we're talking 80+ mph sustained straight line winds. It wouldn't matter what wheel you're running, you're gonna feel it. No issues on my 04 fatty but again if it blows enough to move my Fatboy plus 350lbs of pure sexiness...we got bigger problems.

Hello Canadian Saint, I had to talk to you about the fat boy. I am in the process of being my first Harley made in 2008 96 BORED with a few extras added also. And also I have ridden a lot of different size bikes and it seems to be that the heavier the bike the better the ride. I rode throw rain, wind, sunny days also. But in the Krazy Miles KM's I rode have I EVER had seen or experienced wheels that effect the ride. I'm no professional rider ,BUT A RETIRED PROFESSIONAL TRUCKER CLASS ONE.HIGHWAY/OFF HIWAY AND WHEN I retired it was sad to see the ride end.I miss that life . Now I R-Ving my life away. I love the way you put truth about the wheels and things that go bump in the night lol. But your right give them guys a few miles on X winds and with different types of bike and you will see the difference . I'm going to R V across Canada and ride also . Going to be an experience of my life. I found it is the speed and the weight of the bike you ride not the wheels.Spoke wheels were needing constant checking and not so much about the wind. I would say that if a X wind effects your ride .Park it and go back to the auto cage ride where you yep on you r stinking cell phones and drink your booze and do drugs life to miss out on the real life.Like riding with the wind on you. So I must say ride to live ,Not drive and yep on the stinking cell phone.

2 1/2 years of riding my Fat Boy and I can confirm the wheels don't push me around at all. I've never noticed them creating a problem. I'm 130lb gal, should be super easy to blow me around I weigh nothing. I had more problems with wind when I had a passenger on the back. The wheels are too low to have enough rotational torque to push the bike around. I think it has a lot to do with a lot of fat guys on the bike getting blown around and they blame the wheels instead of their profile lol. it ain't the wheels bud! it's that six pack and everything else around it! People also said this about the VROD that has solid disc wheels front and rear too. Personally I very much dislike Change for the Sake of Change choices. If they cut out the wheels for change for the sake of it, that makes me really unhappy with their choices. But at least in this situation it turned out well for me. I had a 2024 slotted front put on my 2018 so I have a solid disc rear and a slotted front, replicating that EVO Chopper, Softail Deuce style that had a solid disc rear and spoked front. I love the slotted front and solid rear, looks so cool.

My '05 VROD with solid wheels: I'd have to say yes, in strong X-wind, the VROD became a bit squirrely. Not dangerously so but frankly, at high speed the VROD did not handle all that well anyway, Realistically though, how many of us have ridden in truly strong X-winds? I bet very few. I know I have and in my experience it seemed a bit weird. But, I never bought non-solid wheels to test and compare and maybe the VROD just handled poorly at high speed. I do know that with my size 14 boots that above 90 mph, my feet started to lift off the forward controls. That was annoying but in reality, I rarely rode it that fast anyway

How do you like the WindSplitter windshield? I am considering a 15 inch tall Windsplitter-but worried it wpn't be tall enough. I do not want to look through the windshield, but rather look over it by 2-3 inches. It looks like you might have a 19 inch? I am 5 10 1/2 (don't forget the 1/2 inch lol) and I had a 15 inch tall recurved windshield from Freedom Shields on my last bike which was an Indian Chief Vintage. I get that question a lot also. My answer is it moves less in the wind gusts than other bikes, due to the sheer mass of the large tire and wheel, ie gyroscopic effect. Its what keeps missiles and space craft going in a straight line when other forces are acting on it.
