I have an M1A1 Umarex also, an MP-40 and an M3 Grease gun. When I first started I had the same issue, I solved it by libecating (of course the Gun itself) the BBs before I loaded the BBs and both sides of the top of magazine. Although I use a much thicker silicone oil that WD-40 specialist Silicone. A minimum of 100 CST. Never had another problem wit feeding BBs from the Mags on any of the guns.

Thompson is actually a nicely balanced gun, the MP40 is total opposite and not balanced at all. Just like the original guns in WW2.

That looked like WD40 you were spraying into the valve, That is noy silicone oil and will destroy your seals in short order.

WD40 makes a product called WD-40 "SPECIALIST SILICONE" the can looks like a WD-40 can except for the large lettering "SPECIALIST SILICONE" on It and that is what he is using. The cost of this can is about $7.50 U.S. a can. Holds 11 oz. For 100% silicone that is pretty cheap, that is about 0.68 cents and ounce. That is a real deal, Pure Silicone oil is much more expensive of course. WD-4- is a very thin silicone oil about a 20 CST rating. DO NOT USE regular WD-40 to lubricate ANY AIR GUN. WD-40 is made from petroleum and that will destroy the rubber seals of the air/C02 chamber. Silicone oil does not affect rubber, synthetic rubber, plastic, metal etc.
