Truthquest has been my favorite history curriculum so far. Unfortunately, my local library, about 10 minutes away, doesn't have many good resources. I'd drive 30 minutes to a better library, and check out the books we would need for the next 2-3 weeks.

Thank you so much for sharing!!! I've struggled finding a history curriculum that fits the bill so I bought truthquest because of you and another homeschooling mama (Erika I think...from the unlikely homeschool and homeschool bravely). I would love more videos like the one you did of your favorite history books. 🙌🏼❤️ I'm big on learning history through literature. So give me all the favorites related to history! 🙌🏼😬

Have you seen the history timeline notebooks? I used the card at the back of story of the world trying to build a timeline down are hallway and we barely fit just the first volume! (Ancient history) So I was trying to build a scroll for one, when I stumbled across these notebooks built with graph paper, a continuous line with years labeled, and some other cool features! It saves a lot of room. Also, I thought I would just finish our story of the world…now you have me doubting myself! 😅 This looks intense but good

I’m not saying Story of the World is bad, it’s just different. And if your goal is to learn history, it will cover what you need. For Truthquest I have looked at the timeline work sheets, it really wasn’t for us. My kids are interested in just learning the stories, and how everything points to God. But sometimes the timeline works amazing for families that need to put it in a timeframe and see it visually.

Thank you so much for this! I had actually sent you a message this morning over on Instagram to ask you about truth quest! I'm wondering if you would do a video with a how you plan your year / month / week of lessons. Because truth quest leaves you so many options I'm feeling a little overwhelmed as to how to choose what I would like to at least cover for the year, while still leaving the option for rabbit trails of whatever interests my children. Which spines were your favorite for American History I? I'm definitely going to get those binder builders, they look so fun and helpful for retention! Thanks again!

We only used story of the world for American history and then whatever they had at the library. We also used KZitem as an extra source. My advice, take it a week at a time and understand it doesn’t work like public / traditional school. Allow for discussions and bunny trails. You are exploring and learning.

Hello there, I have a question/suggestion I have been trying to compare TruthQuest with Biblioplan and I am stuck because I have never used either one. I want to know what are the differences because they sound so similar. If you have a video comparing them can you let me know or will you consider doing one before next fall please?

Hi! Would you or are you planning to use Truth Quest for Highschool? I'm in the research phase of what I might use for highschool and history is one I'm finding difficult to find a comprehensive curriculum.
@LivingWithEve
2 жыл бұрын
Well it depends on a lot for my younger kids. If we had gone through all of the curriculum or not. But definitely for my middle schooler. It is more than high school credit, because it can be so in depth and as a bonus you can control how in-depth it gets. We will add the essays as full assignments, 5 paragraph essays for the high schooler. But understand it is a lot of work, you will be learning history as a family. So if you like history, reading together, researching together, discussing together it’s a win.

Thank you for this review! It was very helpful. I've been using A Gentle Feast for a few years now and am considering a switch for our history. Have you used the Beginnings guide with Truth Quest? My oldest will be in 8th grade this year and we both feeling like the ancients are the era she knows the least about so I was thinking about starting at the beginning. I noticed the older guides seem to begin with an Egypt/Greece guide. Have you used either the beginnings or Egypt/Greece guide? Which did you prefer? Thanks!!

I used the beginning, but I found that my theology didn’t line 100% up with hers so I skip over it and went to Egypt.

We are using Truthquest and will be covering the Civil War next year then moving into American History 3. My oldest is going into 3rd, and I have 4 kids. My question is... since starting with US history is so good (per their philosophy), as my youngers ones come up, would you just have them go on into ancient with us, or would you teach them the US guides separately? I'm not one to just look one year ahead. I like seeing the big picture to make sure I'm on the right track each year. Also, with this not being a 4 year cycle, do you have any thoughts on high school yet? I'm wondering if only covering ancient history in say, 5th and 6th grade is adequate. Thank you for sharing Truthquest! I love it and wish more families knew about it.
@LivingWithEve

I will use it as a cycle. The American history , even though it is marked as elementary, it is catered to teach the entire family, young and old. It’s just flexible. But other curriculum out there, Mystery of History and My Fathers World.

I am going to start using this next year for 1st grade.( American History 1) I have two questions: 1. How long should each of the books take to get through? (Is each book a full year or two?) 2. We are required to teach Social Studies in Mn. This is supposed to include: History, geography, Economics and Civics; Do you have a recommendation to fulfill these requirements?
@alinamillard5883
Жыл бұрын
Technically one book should take one year, but I'm liking the flexibility of planning 4 years for the 3 US history guides. It allows me to not feel pressured to maintain a set pace. Geography is pretty easy to include, especially in 1st and 2nd grade with the areas covered in those historical eras. Beyond some historical US Geography, I have to recommend On Mission by Gentle + Classical Press. So rich and full!

I'm trying to figure out if I want the young students set, or the 5th grade and up set. (Will be starting with a 3rd grader) My question is, If both sets have modifications for all of the grades, then why make sets specifically for young students at all?
@LivingWithEve
2 жыл бұрын
I think it has to do with the topics. Younger kid’s do better learning about the world around them, thus teaching American History first. I personally think it’s a good idea to start with American History anyway, regardless of age. That’s just my thoughts.

I have a 9th grader currently using Notgrass and she finds it boring. I also have a 5 and 7 year old and I'm wondering w the age gaps would I be crazy to try and do the subject together? Also, I really struggle w finding books at the library for several curriculums I've tried. Are the books recommended hard to find? If im going to end up having to purchase books is there an alternative curriculum that has it more built in that you recommend?
@LivingWithEve
6 ай бұрын
I find probably 25% of the books at the library, but then again you shouldn’t have to get and read all the books they recommend. It’s a pick and choose. I also homeschool all my kids 4th-8th with this curriculum. I do buy a few of the spines they recommend but I never spend more than $100 total including their curriculum. We use a lot of internet resources and you tube videos.
