I got this game as a Christmas present back when I was 8. It was interesting, but I didn't understand how to play fully(casting magic escaped me, so I could never make it past the first boss), and it had to compete with the second Ninja Turtles game for attention. Then one day I got sick at school and had to stay out for a week. During that time I picked up Faxanadu again, and just so happened to figure out how to cast magic...the rest of that week is just a joyful blur of beating this game. And I must have gone through it a dozen times till my nes finally gave out. Notpads full of Mantras, and a childhood full of great memories. This music in engraved in my conscious. Thanks Falcom and Hudson!

Faxanadu was an excellent game. You could figure it out readily from speaking to NPCs. There were (limited) elements of exploration and misdirection therein involved in moving through the world tree.
