I am a tough guy who rarely gets emotional and being scandinavian even more rarely expresses personal emotion , but this last scene made me cry for nearly an hour when i first saw it and stayed in my head for the rest of the day . The vulnerability of Crawford in that scene and that loneliness and weakness in her voice and attitude and the way she hold and talks to her dog , killed me . Jessica Lange is a phenomenal actress . That was truly heart breaking . Even watching it now i am tearing up . I remember calling my mother right after watching that scene to tell her i love her and that she will never end up alone and that if my father dies first , she will immediately move in with me . How can none of Joan's kids lived with her and made her live with them , though she had cancer and saved them from the orphanages of the 1950s , and yet dared showing their faces after her death , at the funeral and then at the lawyers office to hear the reading of the will and try to get her money and possessions . This is beyond disgusting. When my parents die (which i hope will be as late as possible) and though i am their only child, i don't want a penny , whatever they leave will go to some animal rescue organization (as they are both huge animal lovers) . I will keep the house because it has all of my childhood memories so that i can pass it on to my kids but that's about it .

…her attitude towards the film didn’t help. She could have embraced the cult status of the film like Halley Berry embraced the Catwoman backlash or even Mariah Carey later embraced Glitter which paid off and (humbled) them in odd ways. Faye disrespected the work of the hard working crew and that did her in. I also think her critical and commercial success let her get away with things and Hollywood seized her major failure and used it against her.

I doubt the scenes in this clip happened at all though as Ryan Murphy would insist, it's all about having dramatic license. They could have just filmed the account of Bette Davis' hairdresser, who had a confrontation with Dunaway. The hairdresser also witnessed the director angrily throw a bottle at Dunaway for being so late. That would have made an exciting scene. And it really happened.
@Unownshipper
5 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's all true, but it's not about Faye Dunaway. Note how she never even appears in person on this series. Neither does Christina Crawford. One thing I really admire about Murphy is that he never made this series about Mommie Dearest. He could've made this show a camp-fueled bitchfest (and there's certainly elements of that present throughout) but I think he realized that had already been done with the 1981 movie and instead chose to stay closer to the real drama of women struggling to be valued by a superficial society. No, this phone call never happened, but there's an element of truth to the spirit of this scene: dealing with regret.

@@kramnalla What's that got to do with it? Olivia de Haviland is STILL alive (amazingly), but she's depicted in the series. There's no rule that you can't depict living people in a dramatized production (it makes you susceptible to libel and slander laws as Murphy found out but it's not a rule), so it must've been a deliberate choice by Murphy not to depict Faye or Christina in person on here.

I imagine Joan being professional but eventually being broken down to tears from that simple act of kindness. However the truth is Bette hates Joan. Truly she did. After the Oscar acceptance on behalf of Anne, she has convinced herself Joan hated her, ruined her career and was literally out to get her and it was only reinforced as a possibility thanks to her daughters book. The truth is Joan was a people pleasing sensitive girl who was a little nutty who I’m sure just was trying to do something similar to what a Kardashian does now. Give free publicity to her business and make a name for herself until her dying day. All while Bette misinterpret that as a personal attack and Joan took bettes either deranged humor Or seriousness of those attacks to heart. It’s clear Joan always wanted Bette to respect and like her but Bette never gave her that honor. Ever. Two women hurting from a world a man created that much was right but in the end it was their own personality set backs that kept them blind from the truth and in their egos helpless to move forward with courage and act in kindness to the other. Such a waste. To quote Bette “You mean all this time we could have been friends?” And that in a nutshell is the strange cyclical truth of the matter.

Joan Crawford wanted Faye Dunaway to play her in a movie. Initially I thought it was a random dialogue to connect the story to the Mommie Dearest movie where Dunaway played misrepresented villainous Crawford. But, in fact, Joan Crawford did mention in her biographical book, My Way Of Life; "Of all the actresses, to me, only Faye Dunaway has the talent and the class and the courage it takes to make a real star." But, I am unsure whether it's just a coincident, or perfect casting after perfect evaluation, or they really casted Faye Dunaway as misrepresented, villainous Joan Crawford in Mommie Dearest, because Joan Crawford said so.

Damn, why didn't she just say ´´Hello Joan, this is Bette´´ ... the rest would have given itself. It's sooo sad , they could just have been friends. Really good friends. They could have supported each other against all the sons of bitches in the Hollywood film business. Sure, it's just a film about Davis and Croaford's feud. But surely a lot has happened that way. The message for me: respond to other people. be understanding. A good friendship is worth more than 10 Oscars. .......I hope in the afterlife Joan and Bette are better friends than anyone else.

Its rather ironic that Betty Davis, though bitter about Joan trying to steal away her supposed Oscar win for Baby Jane, would defend Joan as an eternal professional, always on time, always knew her lines, would (rightfully so) openly hate Faye Dunaway, the woman would is sometimes best known for playing Joan Crawford in Mommy Dearest.

Isnt the phone call fictituous? And Crawford was 69, not the age you are feeble as she is portryaed here. They make her seem like she was in her 80s.

This event did not happen. The truth is Bette Davis was jealous of Faye Dunaway and was enraged when Faye refused to expand Bette's role in the movie.
@lenwilson3707

Faye was notorious for being late and unprepared. This has nothing to do w/Bette's 'jealousy'. WHY would the 70 yr old Davis be jealous of Faye Dunaway???? Dunaway would have to get on a ladder to kiss Bette's feet.
@DeepScreenAnalysis
6 жыл бұрын
Davis was jealous because she was old and Faye was getting all the parts Bette would have done once. Faye was not unprepared and she was not late, that was a disgusting lie Davis concocted to defame her.
@lenwilson3707
6 жыл бұрын
Noone has to concoct anything about Faye to defame her. She manages to do that all on her own. James Woods and James Sloyan have both spoken about Diva Dunaway holding up the shoot. And it is common knowledge that Dunaway is a monster on and off many sets. No one dares approach her for fear of being verbally attacked and abused. Her reputation is well earned from Hotel Employees to Airlines to ICM agents to Wardrobe people. She is totally impossible. And while Bette is capable of exaggeration, she is known for telling the truth as opposed to Dunaway who still claims that the adopted Liam is her biological son. And while it is true that Bette in the 30's wanted to play Aimee Simple McPherson, Bette also always wanted to play Alice in Wonderland...that doesn't mean she would be jealous of anyone YEARS later playing either.

It seems unbelievable that people actually think the scenes and dialogue in this piece of junk are true and this fiction took place. By the way, the director of "Aimee" said Davis' account is false and Dunaway was fine and caused no disturbances. Sadly, the masses prefer to believe anything nasty even with no proof.

kzitem.info/news/bejne/zX-d0nWYg5WJpH4 Davis was well known for saying negative comments about anyone she was threatened by or who would not do as she said. Her own daughter wrote a whole book about this. From the beginning of her career she disparaged co-workers; Margaret Lindsey, Erroll Flynn, Miriam Hopkins, Celeste Holm, Brian Ahern, Josh Logan, George Cukor, Alec Guinness, Helen Hayes, Lillian Gish, Gena Rowlands, and countless directors. Much of what Davis said in interviews is fiction but because she says it people seem to take it as the gospel. Crital thinking skills should be applied. A book I suggest you read is the biography of Bette Davis by Barbara Leaming. I was lucky to have once had a conversation with Lindsay Anderson, and we talked, of course, about Whales of August. He, of course, was hugely taken with Gish, and he gave Davis much credit for her acting integrity, but he did suggest, with great compassion and no rancor, that there was something fundamentally askew in her personality: beyond being the tough New England bitch, beyond having fought for work through much of her career. Basically, I think, he was suggesting that she was (and probably had always been) more than a little, well, deeply unstable. I mean, no surprise, really, but it was interesting to hear about it from someone who knew her. people.com/archive/stage-fright-bette-davis-says-hush-hush-josh-logan-vol-10-no-21/

Actually Oviedo, The Director of Aimee has never said Bette's version is false. But you're right to put Faye and B.D. Hyman in the same boat. They are both lying lunatics. And LINDSAY ANDERSON is NOT a part of Film history. He was predominately a Stage Director. There is clearly something fundamentally askew in YOUR 'personality'.

I think it’s more so how they acted then there looks there mannerisms are really spot on to Joan an Bette the look is off by far but they nailed how theses two acted to high heaven it’s like you can’t expect Renee zelleweger to look like judy but yet she nailed judy .
@lapislazuli7876

@@kkandsims4612 no: Renee did not nail Judy. At all. Was terrible. Judy Davis’s portrayal of garland in me and my shadows was superior. As for Sarandon, I find her ok as Davis but not really right on point. I can still sense Sarandon being herself and she didn’t get the mannerisms or the voice quite right. She needed lessons from a drag queen. Same with Lange playing Crawford. What many actresses fail to capture with Crawford is how “fakely sweet” she could be. They play her too hard and yet she always comes across as so gentle and sweet in interviews - which of course was all put-on and yet it’s important to get that part right. Lange looks too bloated and full-faced to play the svelte Crawford. I love both Sarandon and Lange but yet feel the performances lacked something. Bette’s highly mannered way of moving and speaking just isn’t captured in Feud. I still enjoyed it though.

Just because Bette once suggested Sarandon would be a good choice to play her doesn't mean she was the casting agent and when she said it I think she was relying on the fact that Susan has made a couple very real characters come to life, otherwise Bette could never have known how carelessly awful this would be played and I bet she chain smoked a whole pack of in her casket when she saw just how bad it was.
