I hope someday you get to see some of my own fiendish designs lmao I'm designing a PSU much like that one at the moment. The only thing is that I went for a full-bridge hybrid LLC resonant + COT topology. It turns out you can get a quite acceptable _cos θ_ - even if the shape of your current draw is still shite - if you simply move most of the bulk capacitance from the input-side to the output-side. Cheers!

Hey you have a good rant, i agree with a lot of it lol. I think most designs for anything is based on the spec of the chip, i have never belived in the spec info. I would use two chips and expect half power from each one, less heat per chip and a better chance of lasting. The overload protection is inside the hot chip, so the protection gets cooked. Not too clever. Just my mad opinions :-D
@razenby
3 жыл бұрын
Sounds good to me... Thermally there isn't effective heat sinking. This design definitely relies on the chip's internal thermal fold-back. The thing just sits there throttling the output power but cooking itself. The thermal pad is small but about 4mm thick and the aluminium panel is thin. The pads dry out and crack...and so on. Not a great thermal design. Bad joints intermittency inside these chips is a problem too.
@mattmoreira210

@@razenby they seem to think class-d amplifiers are miracle devices that don't dissipate any heat. The likes of Peavey also seem to cook their output MOSFETs on their class-ds, by mounting them on a thin, solder-mask-covered copper plane with a fan blowing the gentlest of breezes over it.
@razenby

@@mattmoreira210 Properly driven FEts dissipate very little heat. If you use a thermal camera the heat signature can tell you a lot about the function. Drive issues make them dissipate. I have run amps that repeatedly blown their FETs with a thermal and power logger to see what was blowing them up. They got slightly warm but after about 4 hours the FETs suddenly blew. It doesn't seem to be heat that kills them but I suspected a nasty power spike or an onerous drive signal. I replaced the FETs checked everything and ran it again. Same thing after about 7 hours. i was racking by brain as to why this customers amp wasn't behaving reliably. Then I got a call and another recently repaired customer had the same thing. Both amps had the same batch number on the FEts. I sorted some from the stock with a different batch number and hey presto a duff batch of FETs was the problem. The balance of the batch were returned to the distributor with a complaint. After about 3 months they eventually declared that they were not at fault. No surprises there.....

There are dozens of points I can make regarding physics, particle physics, theoretical physics etc.… I don’t mean to be rude or condescending but I’ll explain it and try to make my points… Like I was trying to explain it to someone as deaf and dumb as myself. But it all bowling is down to one thing. We don’t know what we don’t know. there are only so many Areas of study, methods of research, and science “topologies. They’re applying for grants and fighting for every penny not because they claim to have all the answers or that the LHC is going to give us all the answers. But because every penny they get is money that doesn’t go to more militaries, powerful crooked governments, and at this point in time it’s put towards one of the only things that might give us some answers in the future for questions that we don’t even know to ask now. Please understand I’m not claiming to no what’s best or have any suggestions necessarily. But the more you study the history of science and “and lighten meant”… There’s absolutely no way they could have predicted the discoveries of the future. And most importantly there’s no way we will be able to tell what type of science is going to reveal them to us. So in essence… We don’t know what we don’t know. We don’t even know what questions to ask. Particle physics and all this other stuff ranging from the projects to detect gravitational waves, the “flies I detector“ the “square kilometer array“… The national ignition facility, the worldwide project coming together to research and hopefully for the science of fusion energy, And yes even particle letters like the LHC and the other dozen or so around the world… All those above mentioned things are our best chance to discover the little hidden morsels that are completely outside of our understanding and current knowledge. because to advance clean energy and saving the planet to her right words actually going to make a difference… Is going to rely on science and physics that we don’t yet understand or even know exist. Even if we push ourselves and join together everyone in the world under one cause… We just plainly don’t have the science and logistics to “save the world“ or stop global warming at this time. And if we have a snowballs chance in hell of maybe possibly discovering something that will be a game changer for us… It’s probably through the use of things like particle lighters etc.…. There are a lot of collider‘s and things like x-ray illumination collators… That will make all types of discoveries in the near future. If the cure for cancer is ever going to be found… It’s probably through the research done by doctors and professionals all over the world to travel to these particle lighters and study the reactions of countless materials and substances within the colliders. The ladders might not be the “bleeding age“ of research and technology these days… But if you handed all of those physicist scientists and everyone hundreds of trillions of dollars… And even join everyone in the world under one peaceful community to do nothing but research and discover a way to better our world and our lives… The science just doesn’t exist yet and they’re desperately hedging their bets and hoping that there’s some huge things they’ve missed. Things that can save us from ourselves… Because the more you learn about it and the more you understand Physics and the modern day cutting edge of science… The more you realize that we are totally in Absolutely fact. They’re just hoping that there’s some huge things we missed that could possibly unlock things that will help humanity. I could give 1000 examples of things in the past that we weren’t even attempting to discover but that change the course of human history for the better and gave 100 years of advancement in the span of a few weeks. Many instances these things weren’t even the topic of the research that was being done. If we stopped all particle and theoretical physics type stuff we would probably have $10 million or so per year which is more than enough to solve world hunger. However that’s only considering the cost of the food and transportation. But when you get into logistics, and how you’re going to get these things into needy people’s hands all over the world through corrupt governments and stuff like that… There’s just not enough money in the world to solve world hunger. And the more money that will be thrown out it will just increase corruption exponentially. I fell somewhere in the middle and sometimes I also cringe when I hear the budgets of these projects. But we have to realize the moneys going somewhere if it doesn’t go to research. There aren’t many people in this world willing to do hard work and research for research steak instead of profit. It is so exceedingly rare that things like the LHC, or even places like Oak Ridge national laboratory here in my hometown in Tennessee(Home of the Manhattan project and Adam bomb, and now home to the worlds fastest super computer as of a few weeks ago… any money that can be funneled away from the military industrial complex, to find more wars and propaganda from all sides including my own here in America… The only place I could think to send that money every year would be to folks that are passionate and were born to do the type of research they’re in now. It’s not a lot of the folks who run the collider‘s that will make into make discoveries regularly. They knew the Hibbs bozon theoretically existed in what they need to do to find it. But now we don’t even know what to look for. I mean sure there are things they’re looking for but a lot of the big discoveries in history and in the future will be completely accidental and will change everything. It’s not the people who run the collators or the theoretical physicist… It’s the doctors, chemical engineers, nuclear researchers, and trailblazers from all over the world to travel to those places because they are capable of doing science that can make discoveries which would otherwise be impossible. I don’t have the answer, and honestly you may be 100% right and it’s just a bunch of bullshit. But at this time we can’t just hope to take that money away from those projects to do what? Mine all of the lithium in the world, and a lot of the other natural reserves in the world so that we can build solar farms and windfarms the size of states or countries? With massive storage and wires traveling under the ocean to carry not just the Internet like it does today… The power and clean energy? I don’t know… I would love to sit down and have a discussion like this in person. I know a lot of my points are either confusing or probably just flat out misinformed. But I I think the most important thing we can all do now… No matter how dumb or smart… Is to admit that there’s a possibility we all have gaps in our knowledge and worldview. And are goes back to what I said in the beginning. We don’t know what we don’t know. We don’t even know what questions to ask to find out some hints to those questions. Things like particle physics and the other large project mentioned above… Well let’s just say that if anything was going to make discoveries that will save humanity… It’s probably going to be something along those lines or some similar ridiculously expensive science project. I do understand where you’re coming from… As I have spent some time around prominent researchers visit assist and scientists… And as neat as they are in pool as their work is… The people who really impress me and who will change the world are the people who know nothing about that stuff but who have been researching cancer, global warming, or whatever for decades… And utilize those huge billion dollar projects to answer questions that they didn’t even know to ask. Good day to you and hope you’re all doing well over there. I know it’s probably getting to be that cold and rainy time of the year over there nonstop. I seem to enjoy the winter almost more than summer. I can always get warm but it’s pretty hard to get cooled off especially when I’m out of shape. I also enjoy working by the shop window and having little electronics projects and things to tinker with inside during the winter. Hope everything is going well and everyone is healthy. I always enjoy your videos and look forward to seeing more. Also, as much as I admire mathematicians and scientists who can do all of that in their head or with a pencil and paper and work out incredible things with nothing but their mind and a piece of chalk… There were an absolute shit ton of things that Einstein was so off-base on that in this day and age it’s comical. I mean obviously, Einstein, and others are some of my heroes. I’ve often said if I could sit down with a few people… Living or dead anyone from history… That it would probably be folks like Einstein or Newton before someone like Jesus. 😂 And if she actually looked like they portrayed her in movies and stuff… Cleopatra would probably be at the top of that list also

Yes, keep applying for funding, go down that road, fiddle whilst the world burns, contemplate the naval of God until an Einstein. Bohr, Maxwell, Plank etc.. comes along and raised the bar. Don't defend them they are just avoiding the real work that needs to be done. I wouldn't say all of it is pointless but 90% is. You should check the story where all the string theorists from around the world at a conference letting out a lot of hot air (and a couple thousand tonnes of Jet fuel CO2) as to why their model with N dimensions was best, none could agree . Then Ed Witton took a brief look at the math and then took the lectern and blew them away by unifying all their theories at the end of the conference. Clearly Ed is worth funding the others are fiddling in the dark addicted to grants. I could get into what is wrong with the grant system but all you need to know is that DNA sequencing was invented using a grant for other research. In spite of getting the Nobel he was taken to task by the granting body who demanded to know why the money was misspent he said - "Well you would not have funded me for that". Does it sound like it is working for you>?
