Paranoia and situational awareness are two very different things. If you're eyebanging literally every person you see trying to figure out if they're armed, you're paranoid. This is why the policies themselves do not achieve the results they claim they are designed to produce. Liberalism is nothing more than a brand to make the liberal appear as though their social status is higher than others, nothing more, they don't actually care about people, they only care about appearing as though they care about people because that somehow makes them look like good people.

@@prof113 you don't need Training to use a gun, point and shoot, this isn't a combat situation were things will be at a distance, majority of self defense will be close range, accuracy is meaningless it's not increasing your odds though, statistics show that the US has far higher gun crime and mass shootings and overall crime in general than majority of developed nations (most gun crime and mass shootings by far) so this idea that guns make society safer is just nonsense. The solution is the problem, people think we'll criminals have guns so I need to, not realising two things, first it's easy access to guns that give criminals such easy access in the first place as places with strict gun control in Europe have incredibly low gun crime even in organised crime and secondly you're not protecting yourself if the other person has a gun aswell, you're just increasing the chances you both die. So best things for self defense is strict gun control with maybe a tazer or pepper spray, but the research and statistics is pretty clear, if I was in America I'd be armed purely because the majority of others are, but in Europe I don't need to be, and this is reflected in gun crime statistics, so you can support the second amendment all you like but don't try and say that guns make society safer because they very clearly have the opposite effect..

The issue is the culture. NRA appeals to the simplicity of it all. Go out on a weekend and shoot at a human target. They don't teach you to read the room, react to actual dangers, etc. They just paint this vivid image in your head that any stressful situation or show of aggression is life or death. It takes weekly training to be able to effectively react to a stressful situation. Something a large number of gun owners won't do, nor is their proper qualified classes for it. The NRA is just bad for gun owners in general. They overhype ownership and make gun ownership an emotional thing rather than a tool. The day US fixes its gun problem is the day when gun owners actually understand the complexities of self-defense and it's not always drawing for the pistol.

Amazingly put. I can’t stand hearing the NRA’s speeches. It’s fear mongering, and frankly grosses me out. I’m a gun owner, and I support the Second Amendment, but never in my life will I willingly support the NRA as an organization, or take their advice on how to handle situations. To me, all of it seems utterly irresponsible. they make it out to seem like having a gun will put you in control of every situation, no matter your level of training, and they hook new members on their sob lines about protecting your family. The truth is, without that proper training and understanding, you will most likely be shaking in your boots if something ever happens. I just hate gun culture here in the US. It’s basically a dick measuring contest, instead of being seen as a tool. I admit it’s fun to shoot, and it’s actually the main reason I purchased one in the first place. But you can’t sell that end all be all protection facade to people who really end up needing proper training as well.

What about disabled women? Smaller women versus a much bigger man? (Assailants dont choose "fair" targets). The elderly? The sick? Those who are alone and confronted by multiple attackers? Those in communities where 911 doesn't come half as fast as Domino's? It's not about you, your abilities, or your willingness to accept that you could be the victim of an assault, rape, or murder. I'm in another isle and I'm watching him. He comes back up to me and starts asking me more personal details. Do I live alone am I dating someone do I have family and friends nearby and so on. I give him vague or false answers. I try and leave again and he follows me. I stay in the main isles and he stops me to talk. I'm getting increasing worried and know that this person is trying to take me. I block him from getting me with my cart and grab my knife in my pocket. I rush to the front of the grocery store where everyone is and checkout. I try and run to me car lock my doors drive around not going directly home. When I went home I knew o should look up the sexoffender registry. Sure enough I found his face. I thank God everyday in this communist state I at least had something to give me a fighting chance. Guns are just a tool, and like all tools, they can be replaced. Criminals can use knives bombs cars, swords, rocks, and poison. With the increase in technology and the ability for people to build things at home easily new kinds of weapons can be made unregulated. Rather than focusing on the tools, we should be focusing on the people who did it. But besides crime has been falling for the past decades despite what popular belief is, statistics show a trend that violent crime is falling despite any major gun ban being passed this means guns are not the problem the people are.

@@konradsmith7904 I very nearly shot someone a few years ago. My production partner and I got into a Mexican standoff with some gang bangers in the middle of nowhere when they tried to rob our rave. Having a gun in no way made me feel safer. The fact that the other guy had a gun is what made me unsafe in the first place. The fact that I felt I may potentially even need a gun made me feel unsafe. We live in a country with deep poverty that's awash in guns. That is what is unsafe. That is a deadly combo. The guys who tried to rob me almost certainly would not have done that if they were economically ok or had any hope for their futures. The gun is an almost irrelevant part of most gun crime. The gun is a tool used to carry out a motivation. Ban the gun and the motivation remains. Solve the motivation and the gun never comes out. I'm not saying changes to gun laws won't make a difference. They will and they are part of the solution. But not remotely the largest part. Both parties use the issue as a way to distract from the kind of proactive solutions that would stop violence in general. Neither side is serious about stopping gun violence. Neither party is willing to admit that the problem is deeper than just guns and will require a comprehensive strategy. There is no such thing as a magic bullet. What matters is that if you don't have a gun, you cannot defend yourself in that situation, which makes it objectively worse. According to the CDC (link below), there are " 60,000 to 2.5 million defensive gun uses each year." Such arrogance and ignorance. 1. Nobody said you HAD to carry a gun. Nobody is making you. Nobody. So quit being dramatic. It is always a choice, dumbass. Quit bitching about it, because some people DO need help defending themselves. People DO die because they cant win against a solely evil person. You think guns are bad? One bullet to your head is an instant death. Try bleeding out in a dark alleyway with 47 stabwounds in your stomach and chest. An american tourist got that experience on his second day in the UK just a month ago. He was a gun owner but couldnt bring his firearm because of the laws in the UK. 2. If you think that potentially dying is a hellhole then you are an extremely sheltered and weak person. Ive fought when my life was on the line multiple times through my life and im still here. Life has an expiration date, moron. And it was never promised or ensured to you in the first place. There are 6 billion people in the world, how many do you think die each day? More people die from getting stabbed than shot. You have a higher chance to overdose on methamphetamines on a wednesday night between 6pm-9pm than you do getting killed by a firearm in a month. But yeah, its the guns' fault, not the person operating it, nor because of people who werent taught the value of life and decided to go insane. Because guess what? That happens. People like this are the reason asylums exist. Crazy people and murders have ezisted since the dawn of time and always will be here. Firearms were created to defend the lives and rights of people, and to provide them with the feeling of "being safe". While you cower and bitch and moan about "not feeling safe" guess what? Youre not alone, and youre not special. Ive seen firsthand what malice and evil people are capable of. They do not stop, they do not give in and they do not resist. The only way to overcome this, is to also never give up, and never give in. Take notes. 3. Shall not be infringed. A lot of life-threatening situations can be avoided. Some cant. Boo-hoo. Thats the real world, buddy. There is a food chain and just because you feel low on it (and given your words id say you definitely are) doesnt mean you can whinge or play the victim card. "How can i feel safe!?" Every feeling changes. You choose it. You are never 100% safe. It is through sureity, albeit false at times, that you "feel safe". Its a part of life. Instead of being fearful, nut up and have a bit of backbone and realism. If you think america is a hellhole, you wouldnt last a day in the middle east. Or Britian or the UK. where violent crimes are extremely high and you cant get a firearm to defend yourself with. Or try Africa, the middle east, jerusalem, pakistam etc, where if you dont own a gun, you are as good as dead. Or alaska, norwegia, iceland, poland, etc where guns are used daily to provide food and safety from threats every single day to most families, as many hunt to feed themselves or they starve. Based om your comment, id say youve never had to actually be in a REAL hellhole. Hunting to survive is impossible without something to shoot, and taking on a grizzly bear point blank with a pocketknife or a bow wouldnt end well for you. Most people who use their firearm for self defense do not brag about it. They may get coverage on the news via a news article or interview but that’s about it. If you want to read about situations where a firearm was used check out the www.truthaboutguns.com or bearingarms.com for more info. They will also have videos of firearms being used as well.

Yes indeed! In my country (Sweden), defending yourself with a gun is legal if you happen to have a gun at the time. However, if you are home and someone breaks in to your house and is armed, and you *Legally* shoot them, there will also be an investigation on "how could you get to your gun that fast, wasn't it locked up properly?" and you will most likely be charged for a crime as well.

The FBI statistics show that handguns were used in most of the gun homicides, with 8,029. That’s likely because "violent crime is typically higher in urban areas than rural ones, and handguns are better suited for urban living," said Adam Lankford, a professor of criminology and criminal justice at the University of Alabama. Lankford and a colleague did a study in 2020 that found that semiautomatic rifles or assault weapons are increasingly being used in mass shootings. I must say any thing you use to attack someone is an assault weapon.

so this lady was shot by a gun her BF left out during one night they slept together? she then concludes that because she was shot, Guns do not make you safer. question one: does buying a car make you a driver? does buying a guitar make you a guitar player? does wearing a police uniform make you a cop? The person who had the gun, left it in a place where it could be taken... thats lack of training. people who train to be aware, would not have left a gun out and away from their reach. They wouldn't sleep in the bedroom without locking the door. they would have protocols and security measures in place. so she got a bullet to the head because someone bought a gun, had no training and carried it and didn't know how to use it. she is mistakenly blaming the lack of training and awareness on the gun. what law would she have placed that would have saved her from the bullet that night? universal background checks and common sense? common sense is if you want to be proficient with something, you train hard. if you don't want a gun taken from you, then you train how to retain your weapon. if you dont want to be shot with your own gun, then you secure it next to your bed in a biometric safe. if your dont want a stranger in your home or in your bedroom, you lock the doors, you use a door stop what ever you have to do to delay any unwanted guests. thats the common sense shes missing. also common sense would tell you that a criminal will not follow the law no matter what you do. thats why they are criminals.

Albert Pangilinan exactly the point I was making in a comment. Been a criminal for 90% of my life and I’ve owned hundreds of guns. Never bought one in a store. For every gun they sell legally, ten are sold in the street. So if u take away the legal guns, you’ll just create a whole lot of brand new easy target victims. Reminds me of one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen in my life. A Facebook post wanting people to put a certain color light bulb in their front porch light to signify it was a “gun free” home. 🤨 oh really? Well thank I for pointing out which houses I can rob without encountering a pesky armed homeowner. Makes my job that much easier. 🤦♂️ I fear that a lot of our society these days, would struggle to pour water out of a boot with the directions on the heel. As newly reformed ex-criminal, I can very certainly assure u that criminals are not all stupid. If u make things easier for them, they will definitely notice and exploit that.

I was going to say pretty much the same thing you did. But I will add, let’s take the gun out of the equation. Let’s say he didn’t buy one or locked it up. So now instead of getting shot she gets stabbed or beaten with what ever other object or weapon the criminals find or have. I don’t get her hate against guns, if she was stabbed would she now want to outlaw knives?

There are a few fundament differences that create the divide between pro-gun and anti-gun people. 1) Is the way the you view people. If you think of people in general as inherently good and rational, you probably don't feel the need to carry a gun. 2) The way that you view the gun. Do you view it as inherently evil? Do you view it as a tool? 3) Where do you place the responsibility of your safety and the safety of other innocent people? Is it a personal responsibility or is it up to the government to protect us? We can argue statistics until the cows come home. I can refute every single data point that Vice threw out there. I can argue that they pulled a child from a classroom with no life experience and put her out there as viable voice in this debate. They also put a woman on that was victim of a heinous crime and used her as an expert voice because of her experience. But honestly, we can put these nuances aside and revert back to the three original questions and find why we will never agree on this debate. I can tell you that I don't view people as inherently good. I view firearms as tools. And I feel that I am responsible for my own personal safety.

Crimes including rape and murder happen all the time. They are committed by a small minority but they still happen. So you don't need to see most people as inherently evil to understand that you should be able to defend yourself.

@KCH014 actually a good comment! I agree with the 3 questions and I can answer them otherwise because I live in a safe neighbourhood. So I think more of an idealistic point of view, you more on a realistic because the only thing that's left for you, is to react according to the situation. Which is kind of a reproducing process - you own a gun, so you're kids get influenced by the idea of gun safety and they can't claim the feeling of a non-gun-environment. There could be hope with the younger generations coming up, who actually bring a few new voices to this discussion - which is always good. Although you're right - they're inexperienced in life, which makes them dreamers. I - as an idealist, like that.

4) can most legal gun owners reasonably and safely handle threats given current laws and required training? Those that think no are antigun OR responsible thoughtful gun owners. I know people who shoot less than 20 rounds A YEAR through their CCW pistol and their rounds are all over their paper targets in a calm range shooting at their own pace! Honestly if shit hit the fan id be afraid of them shooting me!
@Khorton014
6 жыл бұрын
Chinese Sparrows I do advocate training. I myself shoot about 200 rounds of 9mm a month, and try to attend a weekend class at least once a year. But a few points on that. 1) The Constitution doesn't say you require training to bear arms. 2) Statistics say that CCW permit holders aren't just effective at stopping crimes, they're extremely lawful and safe compared to the rest of the population. 3) I'm rural areas like where I'm from most police officers don't shoot or train more than what you just mentioned. So yeah, I wish everyone trained, but that's not everyone's reality.

I'm a gun owner, and the lady with the swimming pool analogy was correct IMO. I personally believe TRAINING should be the focus of gun legislation (particularly surrounding carry laws); however, if I can legally own a gun, I should be able to do the training and get my carry permit. Here in LA they don't issue carry permits and that's BS! I'm fine with required training, but not with denying the right to carry.

But is the victims the rise up and take over. Vietnam - American tryed to get rid of communism ( no one know why ) they lost and now is communist. Afghanistan - American supplies and helps the Taliban, the Taliban refuse to give someone up. They go in try to take over and then the Taliban take over second after they leave. Syria - American just bombed the hell out of everything and left the place in ruins. The only reason Isis came about is because American and the UK where funding the current political party of which was killing is own people. Violence doesn't solve violence

@TRMads the problem is American pokes is noise where it doesn't belong all the time. Why does it need to change communist country's in to democracy? It doesn't. Why does it need to free the Afghanistan people, it doesn't and if it wanted to violence doesn't help. The problem with American is it try's to solve everything with more violence, instead of thinking about the people on the ground. Let's take Vietnam, 1st why where they in there? 2nd how is trying to convince the people of a country that your country is better by bombing them? Also morally, they wanted to free the woman of Afghanistan yet they supply arms to Dubai? And buy there oil?

@@lucasrider4895 I don't think that a weapon will help you. These "rapes in the bush at the side of a dark street" are in such a minority that they are close to myths. In the majority of cases the victim knows the perpetrator. Usually, there is alcohol involved: the victim is so drunk that they are already on the verge of passing out or are passed out. I don't think that anyone is capable of fireing a gun in that situation. But on the other side it means bringing a gun to a party with lots of alcohol and guys and girls who are ready to do stupid things. And only because the carrier fears a situation in which they can't even make sure the gun is not stolen. Also I would take the "campus is so dangerous" with a grain of salt. You can critized the feminism a lot. But they have achieved that the topic of rape is discussed on campus and taken seriously. It is quite normal that there are more reported cases, but there are not nessessary more cases. Another problem of rape are our reactions towards a victim. As I said: the perpetrator is usually somebody we know: A good friend, somebody you can laugh with, who is always nice and so respectful, very engaged in church, such a good parent... We tend not to believe them and especially in communities who think in good and evil categories it is hard to even bring such an accusation forward. The rather anonym college community can help a lot to bring such things forward. Generally, I am not fond of the way the NRA is using rape/trafficking/kitnapping in their advertisement, because they ignore the important factor of knowing the perpetrator (and not suspecting anything).
