When his girlfriend said he was "dead dead "and described him as "Blue" she seems to be describing someone that was dead for a while for maybe 12 hours or so. After death the body takes on a yellowish color and blood pools toward that part which is closest to the ground. That is called lividity. However for what ever reason (I'm a retired 20 year ER nurse) sometimes the blood pools in different areas giving the cadaver a bluish hue. This description would support the "already dead" theory but continuing to hike and camp and not reporting this horrific event does not look good. In fact I would have to be insane to remain in the woods and not report it immediately.

And who leaves to go on a 3.5 hour hike at 9pm? That doesn’t make any sense. I live in Vancouver BC, and have similar woods. They are DARK. You cannot walk them reliably at night unless you live on those trails, or you use a flashlight. And then they got lost. So…he didn’t know the trail that well. And if he used a flashlight to illuminate the animal, he wouldn’t have only seen two glowing eyes. You’d see a person holding a dog.

I watch many of your videos, and follow a lot of true crime. All the stories are sad, but this one bothers me, more than others. I think it is the fact that the family of Aron have to go on with their lives, possibly feeling that their son's life wasn't important enough to pursue justice. If Ethan and his girlfriend were not guilty, I believe they would have called for help. So they are free to live their lives however they see fit, and Aron is dead and his family stuck in an emotional prison. This is an injustice to the greatest degree. My heart and very soul hurts over this.

The dog was found close to the dead man. There's no way it was by the couple growling and acting aggressively. This is a strange tale. Or here is a scenario, Aron is holding his dog Buzz because he is being threatened by Ethan, and Ethan purposely shot and killed Aron, with the bullet going through Buzz first, because Aron was holding Buzz. Just because there was no known altercation between, that can't be ruled out. I think the totality of the scene looks like 1st degree murder, and the only reason Ethan went to the police was because he figured the bullet would be traced to his gun, and his dad insisted he go to the police so that the dad wouldn't get in trouble.

The victim was out of his tent or sleeping bag and was holding the dog while walking. The initial growling was the dog notifying the victim in which he got up, picked the dog up and started walking to see what was going on. The couple got startled when they say the man and his dog and the shooter had either a negligent discharge or pulled trigger causing bullet to hit dog then victim. This sent man falling backwards releasing dog over head (arm in position) Dog walk a few steps and died or did death dance (sometimes animals flop around after being killed) a few feet. My guess is dog was found behind right or left shoulder of man laying on his back...

People who hurt animals stir up homicidal impulses in me: perhaps I’ll be a future subject for your analysis (though I’d better get through veterinary school first). I really enjoy your work: driving home from a stressful shift, your calming voice tone, cadence, and consistent ordered program structure (punctuated by disarming deadpanning) is metronomic therapy for this mildly autistic nurse… it does the trick to unclench my jaw and clear my mind (and to laugh away, with your dry comedic aid, the horrors of often sad humanity). Yeah...some lethal stick! (I appreciate your humor regarding that!). THC can prolong the QTc interval that can cause cardiac arrest, but that was also something else thrown in to account for the victim's death. What serendipity for the alleged killer!
