Hi George, what I use when the fly needs to be dried is Silica Gel. I fill a small medicine bottle with them and into the pocket. When the fly needs to be dried off pop it into the bottle replace the lid and shake and you are ready to go, those Silica Gel packs come with shoe boxes or clothing great piece of kit.

Hi George....new to your channel....great video. I am 70 years old and have tied flies since I was 8years old...my grandfather taught me. Used foraged materials...road kill hunting etc all these years and as you said the mothball is the only way to keep feathers safe. Great video Sir. Regards Robbie

Great video my friend, in regards to moth balls I order them from Aliexpress, and you get a nice bag of it. Also a tip for Heron feathers, they clean their plumage every year when farmers cut the grass on the fields, if you walk the fields you will see every second day new heron feathers on the grass, a trick I learned from an old angler. 😊

I have watched quite a few of your videos, and really I am impressed, its the down to earth and very constructive for the everyday fly tier and fisher. I have been tying for about ten years on and off but only since lockdown did I properly investigate my potential with the craft. Needless to say I had some totally frustrating sessions and some very satisfying sessions. It was when I got to the water and my flies started catching, I realized the beauty of flies (up wings, Catskill style) is a totally separate thing from the practically of fishing flies. There is a fine line between flies for catching and flies for art. Although they all catch. Your flies are very good, I have many similar in my box that I have never fished, simply because I had no confidence in them. In other words I thought that the fancy flies were what were needed. I have read loads of books and in reality I need to just watch your videos. So my rods and reels are ready, my fly box is full and my season on a river is about to begin, first time in two years (sea fishing was the catch last two seasons) I can hardly wait. You have inspired me to get back out there and read the water, thank you so much.

@@springerspanielful would u get an iron blue dun on the water this early in March ? I’m pretty sure I seen one yesterday, thought it was LDO at the start but seeing pics of IBD it looks very alike

@@davidgregg8757 They are a fly of April and May,with a later emergence in September October.There is another fly that hatches earlier as you've described,it's not an IBD,however from a fishing point of view there's no real difference,so use your best IBD imitation,the fish won't know the difference.

Hi George, interesting video as usual on storing tying materials. I wonder if a video on fly preparation prior to use, fly dressing of different kinds of flies, emergers, dries, wet flies etc, there doesn't seem to be many videos on the subject. Regards Jon

A purple bead is best for the Iron blue,black is a good all round bead color for a nymph though.

Hi George, I have a question for you .I have a 12 year old Springer bitch and I'm thinking of getting a new pup. Do you have any advice for introducing a new pup to an old dog. I'm worried about the old dog becoming jealous or feeling rejected.
@springerspanielful
Жыл бұрын
There's always a risk of the issues you cited,the best way to avoid them is to introduce the dogs away from your home eg a park or field not known to the senior dog,then bring both home together,no guarantee but it works in most cases.
