zabaleta -- While people who say that obviously have good and kind intentions, imagine someone like this woman hearing that non-stop. No matter what the discussion being undertaken, the reaction would be "gee you look great!". Her real issues and pain lay deep inside of her mind and soul and her outside beauty could do nothing to rectify it.

I met her when I was working as musical director at the Upper Canada Playhouse. She was sitting in front of the Thousand Island Playhouse smoking a cigarette. The theatre was dark that day and we ended up spending the day together. She said that I really made her laugh, and we even wrote a little song together. I call it "Life on Plato" When I look at it now, the lyrics are rather lonely and sad.

It's incredibly tragic that she took her own life. Had she been a teenaged sitcom star in the 2000s, 2010s, they wouldn't have fired her. Look at Jamie Lynn Spears, Fantasia Barrino, and other celebs were were teenaged moms. Hell, they even made a show called "16 and Pregnant" or something. Our society is less judgmental these days. Yes, that can be due to a decline in good family values, but being a teenaged mom shouldn't equal the end of one's promising career. I loved watching reruns of "Different Strokes" when I was a little girl. Dana Plato was beautiful, funny, and awesome. She would have been great on "Facts of Life" as well, I am sure. Rest in peace sweet angel, your loyal fans will never forget you.
@whizkidproductionsriverside

She actually was not a teen-aged mom. She was a young adult who had gotten married and had every intention of having a child. She knew she was going to be written out of the show, but wanted a child so she would, in her own words, never be lonely again. I don't know why they took the route they did. Television was changing radically by that time and they could have easily written a story line where Kimberly got married and had a child, and it would have fit. I was surprised when Norman Lear let them write her out of the show, and it could have evolved with the times and become a different show entirely, perhaps lasting another 8 seasons, but it was the producers who screwed up, not her.

She had a very tragic upbringing. Being adopted and then being a Hollywood child actor is terrible. She needed major help with a addiction and complex stress trauma. She essentially needed medical and psychiatric help. This is so sad it seems that suicide was in the family. These cases seem way too prevalent these days.
@danimart3374

In her last interview, in 1999, she said that she hated the term "child actress". "I am just an actor," she said. She was never forced into acting as a child; she did it voluntarily, and she enjoyed it. If anything, she was upset and depressed during the 80s for being REJECTED by Hollywood. So, like an adult, in 1999, she took responsibility for everything "tragic" that ever happened in her life.

I forgot that What we know as "The Maury Show" today used to be an actual talk show, like: with proper guests and stuff. Unbelievably : the show still exists today. Its gradually devolved into a repetitive infomercial for paternity testing. Its strange to see the direction it started from. In an alternate reality somewhere: Oprah is yelling out "you are not the father!" on daytime TV.

But full of pain, of traumas where she ended up using her addiction to escape them💔 If she had received the psychology she needed and if Hollywood had given her the chance she wanted so much, everything would have been different, she didn't deserve everything she went through. So many actors had drug problems even worse than hers and never had Hollywood's doors closed, Dana was discarded because, trying to escape loneliness and her traumas, she decided to become a mother

She was abandoned when she was born, she was adopted and then her adoptive father abandoned her, her adoptive mother loved her but discovered a serious illness when she was very young and therefore could not give her the attention she needed. Dana grew up alone, with trauma, sadness, and ended up experiencing addiction. When she went into different moves, he kind of filled part of the void she had, but at the same time she had to deal with variations in pressure, and never had the support she needed, in the 6th season she recorded it, because she believed that with this son I never felt alone again, as a result she was fired from the series, after that she got married, the baby was born, she was happy for a while but the addiction continued, only worse because the work filled a void she had, when she tried to resume In her career, I found Hollywood behind closed doors for her, they simply turned their backs on her after a pregnancy, she lost control of her addiction, soon her marriage ended, her mother who had been facing an illness for years died, without anyone to guide her, she signed contract with the accountant and he stole what she had, and in that she found herself alone, without money and without work, a perfect scenario for a person full of traumas who ended up getting involved with drinking and drugs. She wanted to resume her career, but the industry simply closed its doors to her after her pregnancy, she decided to go to Playboy believing that it could help her get opportunities, which was the opposite, and that was her life, a struggle. In search of opportunities, for life and against addiction, he had to work in a laundry and in various places to support himself, he ended up getting into trouble with the law, which at the time everyone understood as a desperate cry for help. She just wanted an opportunity to act, a chance in Hollywood, the place where she grew up, but she turned away when she needed it most and became a laughing stock. There are several cases of Hollywood artists who have problems with drinking, drugs, but They didn't have Hollywood's doors closed, on the contrary, even though they got into serious problems with scheduled recordings, Dana lost everything after her pregnancy and was left with no rumors. She also never received the psychological help I needed, she wasn't just addicted, there were many traumas from the past that led her to addiction.

Rehab only works when a person sees it as an option to get out of the the pain. We as an society look at our own situation and apply it for everyone. Just like someone who can dunk a basketball. Not everyone can. It is only proof that the one shoe fits all approach does not work. She was in pain and felt abandoned never finding the relief from the pain. I only know because I know that feeling. Just look at Robin Williams. Financial wise he was OK. Money is not relevant when the pain never stops.

Ugh, if only we had a "control" to help her exactly like we did in Night Trap game. So, she would be with us and then, her son would spend with his mother 😭 I'm sorry, Miss Plato. Really sorry.. 💔
