Once upon a time, all the moon-ths in Europe were 29 days. Just like the moon cycle. (Actually, the moonth is 29 days, 12 hours, and 44 minutes.) 12 moonths make a year, almost. but! The solar & lunar calendar are off by 11 days. That’s not much, but… 11 days times 3 years is a month One month, 3 times over 9 years, is 3 months 3 months is a season: every decade or so, you’ll have the spring festivals celebrated in summer. Or winter. Or autumn. And then back to spring. That’s bad. The gods will definitely not be happy about this. So the moonths of 29 days became months of 30-31 days. Except for February. No one likes February. It lost a day from 29 to 28. *phhhbt* on the cold misery which is February. Then the Roman Emperors named the summer months after themselves, July for Julius Caesar & August for Augustus. Obviously, these imperial months need more days than the plebian months. The Julian Calendar, named for Julius Caesar, was adjusted with a leap day every 4 years so that spring holidays will always fall in spring. The Gregorian calendar (Pope Gregory) adjusts that to miss a leap year every few decades, the better to keep sun & moon on track with each other. Hope I win this competition ❤️❤️❤️ Anyways you content is love ❤️... 🎉🎉

*In the Roman Calendar most months had 30 days. However, after Julius Caesar died, the fifth month in the calendar (the year started in March) was renamed in his honor (July for Julius) and a day was swiped from the 12th month in the year. The same thing was done for Augustus Caesar (August for Augustus). ... Thus February went from 30 days to 28*

The Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Award is not the same as the Dadasaheb Phalke Award given by Indian Govt which is the highest honour in the field of cinema in India. According to Georgian calender “sept" , “octo", “Nova" and “deca" means 7, 8, 9 and 10 respectively. September, October, November and December are the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th months respectively. It's because initially, March was the first month and January and February were added later. Here, February was the last month and had the remaining days. Then some fellow decided to make January the first month and kept the number of days in February as it is, so February has 28 days only.

It’s believed this choice may be down to the fact that Romans honoured the dead and performed rites of purification in February - the word ‘februare’ meaning ‘to purify’ in the dialect of the ancient Sabine tribe. Or we can say it like this -Numa chose February, a month that would be host to Roman rituals honoring the dead, as the unlucky month to consist of 28 days.

February still retained its 28-day length, with the exception of leap years, when it was extended to 29 days. The modern Gregorian calendar, which is the most widely used calendar in the world today, also has 28 days in February, with a leap year occurring every four years.

This is because of simple mathematical fact: the sum of any even amount (12 months) of odd numbers will always equal an even number-and he wanted the total to be odd. So Numa chose February, a month that would be host to Roman rituals honoring the dead, as the unlucky month to consist of 28 days.

Reason is well known. Since earth takes a round of the sun in approximately in 365 days it was necessary to have some months of 30 days and some months of 31 days. If we would have had six months of 30 days and six months of 31 days the calendar year would have been of 366 days. So it was considered necessary to have made one of the 30 days month a month of 29 days. Since instead of December, February used to be the last month of the year during those days, the February was cut short to a month of 29 days. But it was realized that earth takes about 365.25 days to take one round of the sun. So Julius Caesar had introduced the concept of leap years by making February of 30 days once every four years. But the month July named after the name of Julius Caesar was of 31 days and the month August named after the name of the Roman emperor Augustus was of only 30 days, the month of August was converted into a month of 31 days to please the emperor by making February a month of 28 days during non-leap years and of 29 days during the leap years. This arrangement would have been all right had the earth taken precisely 365.25 days to take a round of the Sun. But it was found that it took approximately 365.24 days only. So, since 1582, Gregory Pope XIII made the leap years divisible by 100 but not by 400 non-leap years which gave us a calendar year of 365.2425 over a span of 400 years. But it has been recently found that earth takes 365.24219 days to take a round of the earth instead of 365.2425 days. So it calls for one more adjustment to bridge the gap. Instead of taking care of the difference in the actual days the earth takes to take one round of the sun by cutting short the leap years the problem could have been very well tackled even by redefining the duration of a second. But perhaps this idea had not struck Gregory Pope. Perhaps even now no one is thinking on these lines. So we don’t know how the concerned authorities may address this problem - by redefining the second or by redefining the leap years once again.

Reason 1 The Indian Coral Tree, also known as the 'Palash' tree,which may indirectly relate to the 28-day duration of February. According to the legend, the Tiger's Claw tree was created by the god Brahma, who gave it 27 petals to represent the 27 lunar mansions or nakshatras in the Hindu lunar calendar. However, the goddess Parvati added one more petal to the flower to represent an additional lunar mansion, bringing the total to 28. Reason 2😅 February is the month when people start breaking their New Year's resolutions, so a shorter month means less time to fail.

Unfortunately, 12 times (any odd number) is always an even number. To make the number of days on the calendar add up to 365 in a year, there would have to be one month with an even number. February was chosen to have 28 days as this was when the Romans honoured their dead.
@tarunudu

The reason is simple and clear, February is the first even month (2nd month).Romans believed 'even' numbers were unlucky, So they ended up giving February (the first even month) least no. of days.

Numa realised that one month would have to have an even number of days, otherwise the total could not add up to an odd number. Encyclopedia Britannica explains: “So Numa chose February, a month that would be host to Roman rituals honouring the dead, as the unlucky month to consist of 28 days.

February’s 28 days date back to the second king of Rome, Numa Pompilius. Before he became king, Rome’s lunar calendar was just 10 months long. It began in March and ended in December. At the time, Romulus, the first king of Rome, and his people found the time between December and March to be unimportant because it had nothing to do with the Harvest. When Numa Pompilius took reign, he decided to make the calendar more accurate by lining it up with the year’s 12 lunar cycles. The new 355-day year needed two additional months to make up for the lost time. So he added January and February to the end of the calendar. Because Romans believed even numbers to be unlucky, each month had an odd number of days, which alternated between 29 and 31. But, in order to reach 355 days, one month had to be an even number. February was chosen to be the unlucky month with 28 days.

February has 28 days in a common year, and 29 days in a leap year. The reason for this dates back to the time of the ancient Romans. The original Roman calendar had 10 months and a total of 304 days, with the year beginning in March and ending in December. The remaining winter period was not included in the calendar. However, the calendar did not align with the solar year, and it caused confusion and difficulties in keeping track of the seasons and religious festivals. In 45 BCE, Julius Caesar introduced the Julian calendar, which added an additional 10 days to the 355-day year, bringing it to 365 days. February was chosen as the month to add the extra days as it was the last month of the year in the old Roman calendar, and it was also considered an unlucky month by the Romans. To make the calendar more accurate, every fourth year was designated a leap year, and an extra day was added to February, making it 29 days long. This adjustment helped to keep the calendar aligned with the solar year, which is approximately 365.24 days long.
