Your reaction to ACOTAR was so funny and I have to completely agree with you. I have never seen a bad review of this book and everyone overhyped this book but I thought this book was terrible and way too cringy. I absolutely hated the main character and the the other characters just didn't make sense, the plot was deficient, the romance made me want to combust, and the writing was so poor. I'm glad there's someone who doesn't think this book is the most glorious thing in the world.

I personally tried to read this book based on the good reviews, because we all have to admit ACOTAR was really hyped. Halfway through the book, when I reached that sunset scene, I told myself I was still gonna read and finish the book, but then I also said I wasn't gonna like it more than how I currently did...which I have to admit, I thought the plot was cringy, the romance too cliché, and the writing wasn't the best that I had expected from such an overhyped author. So yeah...one of the greatest reading disappointments I've ever encountered. However, I HAVE decided to give the series another try and read ACOMAF, but I doubt it will be any better, but I hope it will.

I just found your channel and I love how honest you are with your opinions! I think we have a lot of similar book tastes. Even though I liked some of the books you didn't, a lot of the books you really didn't like I also didn't like for the same reasons. I loved My Lady Jane too, the Princess bride is one of my favorite reads from childhood. I totally know what you mean about vague magic systems! I have read a few books with that type of magic system that still somehow worked for me, so for me it can be hit or miss. I'm supposed to read Uprooted soon - I'm hoping that it will work for me even with the vague magic system but we will see! I've wanted to read Kiss of Deception for so long! glad you enjoyed it :) I love that you thought attachments is creepy - i haven't read it but i think the synopsis sounds creepy too! I read the first two Throne of Glass series and HATED it. I haven't wanted to read ACOTAR because I don't think it will work for me.

I absolutely adored The Night Circus - I found its world really unusual, unique, and beautiful (and I'm a sucker for immersive worlds like that). But I heard zero hype about it before I read it, so I didn't have any expectations going in. Honestly, I bought the book because I loved the cover art! My Lady Jane, on the other hand, was a complete bust. Hordes of hype around it, plus I had no idea it was a fantasy book - definitely not the thing to read when you're expecting straight up historical fiction! Thanks for the honest reviews and here's hoping March brings better reading!

Heya! So nice to find another francophone canadian online :) I just stumbled upon your channel while I was looking up some book wrap ups and I'm happy I clicked on your icon! I actually read Uprooted last year and LOVED it. I can understand the 'romance' is creepy and weird- I mean as I was reading it I had to rethink how I portrayed the wizard in the tower in my head. But in the last part of the novel, the scenery and the cast change except for the main protagonist (I don't remember her name..). The change was for the better and I really like how it all ended...perhaps you should pick it up where you left off to see the denouement? Otherwise, thanks for the Pottermore suggestions, I had never heard of those collections before! I will check them out. A+

maja2718 I agree with The Kiss of Deception 👌 (well you've got a surprise waiting for you 😋) I read only one of Rainbow Rowell's books - Carry On but didn't feel like finishing it so there's that. I like the fact that you want to read the acotar and see for yourself whether it's good or not (many people should have that mindset) And yes some reviews are just filled with hate and are completely negative (though these people only form the minority of the majority of us) Tog unfortunately get's more hate because some people wanted the main character to end up with someone else. Don't mind them and give it a try 😉 Read tog then the acotar series cuz that's the right order 👍

Oh, I hope that your March is going better. Since I didn't like Landline by Rowell, and keep hearing how bad her other books are from people I trust to..well.. Why the heck did I buy all of her popular books couple of years ago??... Damn it. I was only interested in Eleanor and Park, really. Oh, hell. Guess, I need to sell them now. Okay, I'll try the Kiss of Deception. I trust you.:) And maybe I'm weird, but even after I've heard sooooooo many negative things about Uprooted, I still want to read it, hah. I'm currently reading and really liking The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner. It's a really Riverdale-in-feel-like book, I've realised yesterday, on my way to work (I'm up to date on Riverdale series, and while I'm not an Archie fan.. this series works for me at the moment. I wasn't expected it). Okay.. this comment is already too long. Happy reading!

Some rec suggestions...Have you read Eligible by Curtis Sittenfield? It's a modern retelling of Pride & Prejudice but somehow breathes new life into it. Also, I think you'd love A Study in Charlotte if you're a Sherlock fan (gender bent YA Sherlock adaptation set at boarding school). Also, for some non-cringy romances I think you could get into, try Lucy Parker. She writes contemporaries set in London's West End theater scene. I don't want you to give up on romance! It includes every genre, you just have to find your jam. Love on my Mind by Tracey Livesay is another I think you might like - set in the tech world with a male lead who has Asperger's. I also think Courtney Milan's Cyclone series might appeal. For historicals that are different from Regency, maybe Beverly Jenkins' Indigo? Set in Abolition times and starring a woman who is a member of the Underground Railroad. So, so good!

Attachments kind of normalizes stalking and that is so wrong. But it bugs me a little when people expect Lincoln to be ugly just because he lives with his mom, plays D&D and is socially awkward. I think the author 'made him' hot in order to make the story less creepy but that is -again-, so wrong. If he was indeed ugly, the story would turn out differently. I only enjoyed the witty emails because the romance was terrible.
@BookswithEmilyFox
7 жыл бұрын
That's my issue! He's basically described as a loser so it will come as a shock that he's hot... still creepy AF though!!! I hated the message at the end about how he fell in love with the girl without ever seeing her and that's why she's okay with the stalking... euh no. Just no.

Yes, the message was horrible and I would've liked the book if the girl's reaction was realistic and the whole thing would blow up in his face.

Loved Night Circus, but feel the exact same way about The Nest - it was kind of underwhelming for a hyped bestseller and I totally agree that it's completely forgettable.

I cringed a lot reading A Court of Thorns and Roses, too, but A Court of Mist and Fury is much better. There are still some...moments, but overall I was really surprised at how much better a book it was.

read " a little life " the whole setting is in New York . it's a little long but I think it is worth the read. not a fun read tho. pretty sad and some say it's too much and unbelievable but I recommend if you haven't already read it.
