As someone who gets a lot of packages, I can confirm that’s true. I never ever have issues with my UPS packages but when it comes to FedEx, thats a nightmare. The FedEx carriers in my area many times leave packages outside n dont even bother knocking on my door n many of my pkgs have been stolen n they never take responsibility for the mess they create. I cringe whenever a company uses FedEx for my pkgs bc idk if I’ll ever get them.
@TaniaLJ

I agree. I’ve never had problems with UPS. I’ve always only had a problem with FedEx. They always deliver packages that are either open or the box is so beaten up that the contents inside are also destroyed. If not that, they constantly lose the packages and always deliver to the wrong house in my neighborhood (every single house has the number on it somewhere in the front or right by the door), it’s ridiculous. I’ve seen a FedEx driver look at my house, pass it, backs up two houses down and deliver my expensive package. Everything was on video and of course no responsibility was taken. I had to call my bank to get my money back…Ridiculous

It isn't a union thing, it is more of economy of scale. UPS owns all of their trucks and has lots of negotiation power when buying them. The independent Fed Ex last mile contractors have less bargaining power. UPS services all of their trucks in house where as the independent contractors farm this out. Another advantage of UPS serving their trucks is gathering data from the fleet to determine exactly how long a part will last. This kind of data can trim overall costs. The independent Fed Ex contractors don't have this advantage. Don't think that unions are better for workers, look at how they got the Keystone XL canceled.

It depends.before covid, we had commit times, 1030am and 3pm. Now it's only 1030am. Residential routes you can move like a turtle and take your time. If you have a 90% commercial route, you have to finish those commercial parcels by 3pm/4pm the latest so there's not much time to slack off. Then you start your scheduled pick ups at 4pm. If you picked up any overnight parcels, you'll need to drive to a shuttle or go back to the hub and drop off all overnight parcels by 545pm so the trailer can get those parcels to the plane. Then that's when the driver can take his time bc they will have a few stops for residential.

I worked for fedex as a delivery driver this year from August-October and i can say first hand FedEx losing workers by the droves, but its not because employees and drivers that dont wanna work there. Its because the wages they promise on your application is NOT the wage they give you once you start. Independent contractors inside of fedex do not pay for OT obtained, and workers that stay longer are being overworked because of the fact that so many others are quitting and passing off the work to them. So long story short its a mess inside of FedEx. But its because of their own doing. Independent contractors from different states should not be the ones going out and trying to hire desperate people with false wages with no oversight or supervision or true benefits offered. Im still owed over $1,000 of unpaid wages because of one of their independent contractors screwed me over so watch out for them, its scam city and people arent standing for it.

I had to quit Fed Ex ground because the pay rate is not good enough for the constant pressure they put on us. It is literally the worst job I've ever worked at. Edit: ohh and no breaks at all even if we would work 8 hours. Sometimes I had to go outside myself and get a quick 10 min.

UPS is known to provide great careers for people. I know guys who are drivers for UPS and are making over $80,000 per year. Technically, UPS is an airline, although they only do freight. I know a few pilots who left the passenger airlines to work for UPS instead, because they preferred the benefits.

If you hate your job at FedEx it's your contractor, not FedEx. The one I work for is great. Used to work for a different contractor that I did not like. Making pretty much the same now working 5 days a week as I did in 6 with my old contractor. My old contractor also forced everyone to work 6 days a week. On top of that, the one I work for now pays $240 a day if you do choose to work a 6th day. Compared to just $145 a day all 6 days with my old one. They also pay me $180 a day for days 1-5. With health insurance. Keep looking. There are good ones. Fedex also has some perks that UPS doesn't. For one, UPS pays hourly, and FedEx (at least all the contractors in my warehouse) pay daily. That means if you get done faster/have a lighter load you still get paid the same and not less like you would at UPS. I can't speak for all ups employees but that's how it was for my friend that worked at UPS. We can't blame FedEx for any of his. Maybe FedEx needs to set new regulations on how their contractors pay their employees.

This is my 7th peak season at FedEx ground. I started as a package handler, then moved up to QA Admin then ITQA Admin and finally am an Operations Coordinator. There is growth in the company and now any new hire is eligible for full benefits. Before you had to work a 1000 before eligibility. I love my job, but I do understand why people don’t want to go through that “gauntlet” of being a package handler first.

It’s hard work moving big boxes tht are like 75 to 85 pounds. For tht long 7 days a week. On the 7th day no one shows up but the true nd hard workers tht wanna work. I have trained new ppl tht comes in nd it’s not the same when I got hired on 5 yrs ago. They thrown me in a trailer nd say good luck now a days they “ trained” 50 ppl nd only 10 pp showed up the next day. It’s management tht don’t care! treat us bad nd think we r robots

FedEx Ground drivers are third party and FedEx Express drivers are not. People commenting should specifically say which one of the two they are referring to. This report also made more distinction between the two, it's deceiving. UPS is also unionized and some of their employees who want to be driver have to wait years as package handler to become one. The entire story is not explained in this report.
