It makes you wonder about the Engineers and R&D Department??? I’d like to see how that load shot with a Rectifier Spade Choke designed for Federal TSS.

I doubt it would be much better. It seems like Federal is always one of the firsts to try something new in the turkey shell market, and when it first comes out, its better than the other options out there. However, within a year or so, everybody else figures out how to improve their design and Federal never changes anything about that original shell, so that shell falls behind the market performance very quickly

The Black Mamba always stays in gun! (No flight control wads)

I'll be doing some more tests with the black mamba soon, but it seems to be a decent all-around choke so far

I don’t know how they continue to successfully sell these shells. Clearly, their marketing department is better than their production department. I would bet money they lowball the TSS in the load. It is obvious.

I would agree with you there. When some of these Federal shells first came out, they were probably pretty good compared to the rest of the market, but they just don't hold up today

Don't really care that for that pattern. It's too spread out. Thanks Matt!

It's not really my preference for pattern either

I don't much care for them. 12 and 20 gauge didn't pattern well with different chokes. I do use them as a follow-up just in case.

They would work fine for that. I'm gonna be testing them with some other choke of course, but I don't necessarily expect anything amazing

The 3.5 inch 3rd degree was a great performer before they decided to slap Rinellas face on every box and jack up the price by 7$ a box from what it was before that, quality went down and price went up

I have a couple of the older 3.5" version shells that I will be testing soon, so we'll see how they do

@@matttyreeoutdoors that’s gonna be interesting to see, they used to be absolutely lethal patterning out to 60yds in my setup

I’ve never seen a tri-blend, especially of different materials pattern wortha. I think the differences in shot size are too much for a choke manage imo. More of a gimmick to me.

I've had mixed luck with stacked loads. They seem very finicky and need to be loaded just right to really perform

@@matttyreeoutdoors - I’ve had great luck with small duplexed tss but no real luck with a tri-plex with lead or hevi shot mixed in. I guess it’s unfair of me to compare it with a 9/10 tss blend bc it has raised the bar so high and has so many pellets per oz.

I've always tended to favor federal products, so it's sad for me to say. Their turkey ammunition is trash and embarrassment to the brand.

I'm in pretty much the same boat. I don't hate Federal, but their turkey shells are absolutely behind the rest of the market

$25 a box those aren’t as expensive as full TSS loads

I have seen them anywhere for $25 to $35 a box. At that price, a Longbeard shell would be a way better choice in my opinion
