I remember the first video of this ambulance.Look at the progress since! That "Q" sounds older pitched and growl than one's produced today.Nothing like an older built "Q"(Early 90's on back).

For any one here. No the Qs aren't made in China. They are still made by federal signal here in the USA. They are over $1000 brand new each. Yes some Qs do sound different from others. It's just how it is.

I use my dedicated 2nd battery circuit for my mech sirens. Very easy and no draw at all on alternator while running any or all three C class Federals at once. Your Q sounds great. I am gonna guess the other mech siren is a model 28? That is a gorgeous cadulance! I want. !!! Got a will?

Can't wait to hear them both in action at once! How long will we have to wait for a parade video?

Even is this day/age where electronic sirens are de-rigeur, there’s something noble and nostalgic about mechanized fan sirens like the Federal Q2 series… though they’re typically found on fire engines rather than ambulances 🚒🚑

That wouldn't suprise me, I would be curious to find out what the life cycle is of a newer Q siren before the bearings ware out.

Very cool, did you restore this yourself? I didn't realize these hurst ambulances has so many sirens: the Q, the other mechanical siren, and the two speakers which I assume are for an electronic siren. Any idea why they would put two mechanical sirens on it?

Historically speaking, all those Federal rotators (Model 176?) should not have "hill" lights. Usually one beacon had a hill light (usually the highest one on the vehicle). They were more popular on police cars than ambulances.

Wow, from that crappy motorola and not much else to a Q, a 28 and an old Federal electronic. WIN. I approve 110%!

A Q and a 28? Nice, Richard. You would've liked my friend's old Pontiac ambulance years ago: Q, 77GB, Federal Director.

I have read that they are assembled here with outsourced parts now. I guess that would likely be the motors, castings, etc...

I'm told it is an 140 amp. I also have neem told today's alternators cranking out 200 plus amps will not work on this since the alternator on my ambulance stills kicks out the 140 amps while in idle.
