If you can find 3” 41 pellet count you’ll be impressed with a kicks .680. I think my 10 gauge loads from factory are 54 count if 8 remember. It’s a home defense load for me.

Winchester makes a 54 pellet #4 buck 3 1/2 inch 12ga that I would think would be impressive as well

@@M.H.D.actual yep I don’t think anybody loads number for Buck anymore for 10 gauge, but I believe they were the same pellet count as the 3 1/2 inch 12 gauge from factory. I’ll have to get me some number four bucket load up 3 ounces of it!

Hmm, well I may or may not have some of those shells, so we'll see what they might be able to do haha

Yep, I'm working on getting some other 4 buck shells to test, so we'll see what they can do soon!

That is the load I keep in my camp gun. That is a bit better than my results out that far.

Yeah, I could definitely see them being a pretty decent little camp load. They would do the job for just about whatever you would realistically need them for

We will stick with the 41 #4 pellets in a 2 3/4 inch shell...I think the short shells, with any sized shot, are more designed to add capacity to a shotgun, say 10 short shells vs maybe 7 longer shells...you know how the 'it's all about the capacity' crowd can be...i think the short shells used in the right situation can be effective, but we only keep a double barrel loaded, thus my initial statement...little doubt the coyote would most likely be down, but 40 yards seems to be pushing the range just a smidgen...carry on...

I've only seen 41 count no 4 buckshot in a 3 inch factory load. 21 or 27 count in a 2.75 inch factory load.

Does that shorty shell reduce your semi-automatic shotgun to a single shot

The Shorty 4 buck and number 8 shells do not fully cycle, so yes, you do have to manually cycle them. Surprisingly enough though, the Shorty slugs actually do cycle pretty reliably in my particular 11-87

@@matttyreeoutdoors I guess pulling the charging handle on a semi-auto isn't much different than pumping a forearm
@matttyreeoutdoors

@johnovanic9560 technically I guess not, but they can sometimes get caught up a little trying to chamber them since they are much shorter. That's kinda why most people just run them in a pump action so they don't have to fool around with that
