Watching these videos makes me really miss running the rehab i used to run, it was actually amazing how many people gave us raccoons that they had attempted to keep as a pet but realized that raccoons SUCK. We only had one that couldn't be released into the wild due to her age and how dependent on people she was, she was bottle-fed well into her adult life and wouldn't eat anything else no matter how hard we tried. Can confirm that raccoons absolutely suck as a house guest, had child locks on every door and cabinet and they figured out how to open them, some would work together to pry open the fridge and just RAVAGE anything inside. Most recently we were brought 5 foxes whose mother was poached and they were left to starve, when we got them they weren't even old enough to open their eyes and were in pretty bad shape, only 2 ended up surviving. Many long nights were spent caring for them and teaching them things they would normally learn from their mom. I do miss rehabbing quite a lot sometimes but I gave that up to pursue a culinary degree. I say we but it was literally just me as I was the only one with the proper licensing and resources (and connections). Running a successful rehab can be an extremely expensive and time consuming venture but it is also extremely rewarding seeing an animal that was brought in on the brink of death run into the wilds healthy and happy. It did suck when some didn't survive despite how hard I tried to save them but I just remind myself that I was able to make their final moments a little easier and it helped.

I saved a raccoon once. Little bugger had a peanut butter jar stuck on its head. I observed it for a while, because I know the little guys are smart, and I didn't want to go and save it when it didn't need to be saved. Once I decided it was in distress I started working on pulling the thing off. I foolishly didn't put on gloves and it scratched up my hand pretty bad. Eventually though I got the jar off and the little guy ran off unharmed. Here's hoping that little Jar-Head is still doing well.

I'm really glad this video was made. Raccoons are a hard rescue. Not only do you have to navigate the host of pathologies they could carry, not only do you have to actively avoid them imprinting on humans (which they do basically immediately) and try to rehab them in the two weeks you have before they semi domesticate, but you have to deal with a bureaucracy that just wants to euthanize them and official rescues that, in my area, charge $2K for a baby raccoon surrender. So what do? In captivity, they will open every door and every cupboard. It's like childproofing your house but like... forever. They will alternately kiss you and Purr then bite you viciously. You rescue one, you gotta be prepared for a decade of care if they can't or won't leave. Plus side, they potty train real easy so at least you're not stepping in raccoon shit every morning. #RaccoonRescueReality Edited to add: Before you rescue a raccoon you have to be okay with poop. They will actually die if they can't poop. So imagine checking a creature's potty like their life depends on it... because it does. Now imagine massaging their butthole and praying. This is animal rescue.

When I was in college my roommate found an orphaned baby raccoon and brought it in the house. That day it napped with both of us on and off, and it would suckle on your finger the whole time. It was totally adorable. The next day of course we made some calls and he took it to a rehabber. It was a little sad to say goodbye to it, as it kind of bonded with us because it was so young and helpless, but it was obvious that keeping it would've been an absurd and unethical choice.

It's just too fun. Like most would admit, it started with Kevin the bully. Then we got to see all the other animals like DaBaby, Paugers and even the recently dead Nuggets or I think that was the name. But yeah. It's awesome and I support you bro. Been a sub since u were on 250k+ (I was so shocked when I saw how hard ur channel blew in like 2 weeks).

Hey uncle ben. I'm from Australia and seeing you uploading every day really makes my dopamine levels shoot up. I'm currently in lockdown so this has really helped me out. Keep up the good work my Christian friend.
