👍🏼back in early 1960's I seen a corn grinder set up with a bicycle sprocket welded on that shaft. You can sit and pedal and just keep feeding the hopper. Yep If you got Young kidz grinding just make a longer funnel on top so fingers cant reach in,,a corn cob will work usually if it gets plugged up. Appreciate Your hard work. Jan.8,2023

Hi! I finally got my Old English wild game chicks. They are beautiful pure black with bright red crops. 2 roosters and 2 hens. I've had to lock the roosters up cause they were getting too much for my silky bantam hens. I let them raise 5 eggs and now I've got some black chicks and they are starting to change color now. I think 2 are getting puffy heads.😊 Thanks for all your info.👍

so do you ever let any of your chickens out of their pens to free range? I am learning the many different ways to keep chickens, before we get any. I like the idea to let them out where our horses are to scratch around the manure and eat the bugs and larvae. Also. I have not seen any cats around your place. What do you do about the mice and rats? Our barn cat has worked wonders to take down our mouse population, which has been so destructive. He also patrols around our house and garage. Have not seen a sign of a mouse in our garage since he got big enough to hunt.

The only game chickens I know about were fighting roosters which I wasn't much into. Dad raised a bunch for another fellow and we had roosters running all over the place. Came home from a trip to town and while we were gone they'd all got into a gang fight. There were dead roosters all over the place except for the one smart one. He was way up on the hillside cackling like he'd just laid an egg. I went to one cock fight in my life and didn't like it. They put sharpened metal spurs on the chickens feet and let them kill each other while they took bets on which one would win. Couple old folks had a parrot they couldn't contain. He whipped everything in the house including the old man and the woman plus every stray dog and person who came down the road. Well, they decided they'd make some money with him. They took him to a chicken fight in a cage. That parrot knew what he was about. When they put the cage down he was shaking the bars, saying, "let me at him! Let me at him!" They opened that cage and he went at that poor old roosters so fast it was just like a blur, dust and feathers so thick you couldn't see a thing. When the dust cleared that parrot had that poor old rooster on his back, had him by the throat choking the life out of him. Well, that poor old feeble rooster was just barely able to reach up and hit that parrot with one of those sharpened metal spurs. Parrot jumped back, looked at the rooster, then turned and started running. As he ran away he was screaming, "he's got a knife! He's got a knife!"

@@SpiritoftheOutdoors plus I don't particularly care about tough old roosters. Had one tried to fight you every time you went in the coup. Meanest bird I ever saw. I waited till his back was turned, shot him in the head, plucked him and put him in the stew pot. First 30 minutes he tried to kick the lid off the pot. Toughest chicken and dumplings I ever had. The birds that are more prone to illness are more rapidly removed from a bloodline without all the special treatment and you a left with a heartier line of birds.
