I would advise people to start out with water and white candles before dishing out foods to spirits. They will tell u what they need either by dreams or it will weigh on your mind constantly to give something specific. I am speaking from experience. Now i know what to put on the altar until i receive word on something else. Oh by the way when i feed ancestors i am refering to my blood relatives who have passed. I dont know if any others are around yet.

I totally agree with you. I am not black or African American and you are correct. Starting out with water and white candles are important...... later, foods will be offered.. or fruits. Your ancestors will tell you want they need.... or your spirit guides; however, spirit guide altars are different from ancestral altars.. to nature shrines or god altars.

If I gave you water and candles and asked you to work for me, how could you? Can you get ENOUGH innergy from water and candles? Is that your regular diet in your life right now? Alafia this video is done with good intentions. It's good to feed Elegua/ Eshu first when in the faith of IFA or Santero work. However it's not good to feed ancestors or spirits every week... it's best to give light ( candles) and freshen your altar with clean glasses of water and flowers. If it's a birthday etc yes give them cake food etc but don't OVER MATERIALIZE THEM because they need to elevate and understand that they are now spiritual beings... Spirits can eventually live through you and then interfere with you becoming grounded. However this is awesome work your doing especially taking the left overs outside to the tree for Eshu. ancestors and dieties dont go together in an altar, also feeding the ancestors daily will keep them earth bound and they need to elevate, offerings can be done on especial occacions, Legba eats a lot, and would eat certain foods, idk wich path you follow but i would not advise to just set up an altar and feed your ancestors so you get money or other earthly pleasures, it can make them angry, also not all ancestors are willing to be called, and if you eat certain foods does not mean they will like it too. A glass of water a candle and some flowers will do.

There is alot of info on this question out there. Beings who used to be human are going to remember their human food. Beings who have never been human are not going to benefit in the same way. This distinction also teaches us about what being human means. In general, there is an emotional nutrition which other-dimensional beings need. And this gentleman is absolutely correct. If you feed them intentionally, you will experience an increase in what we generally call "good luck". This is because, unless they are intentionally fed by your love, joy, pleasure, etc. they will remove things from your life that bring you those same emotions. See how that works? Another way to look at it is they will cause you to feel the opposite of the emotions I listed such as hate or indifference, frustration, pain, etc. If you have lived all this time believing that such unwanted emotions are "just part of life", I understand. I did too. And then I tried this. 😲 Nearly every ancient culture and religion has a sign for good luck. Either a written symbol or a hand-gesture. One common hand-gesture is the crossed fingers. This gesture, tho I suspect it is older, can be dated to the Christian Church as a way of showing the "cross" to any spirits who may be present that this person is "out of their jurisdiction" so to speak and to leave them alone. Older gestures to this same effect are of an upraised, open and outward-facing hand which indicates that the viewer can take their judgements or ill-intent and get lost. This awareness is ancient and ubiquitous. Only now and only we have lived without it.

I tend to stick to vegetarian food offerings with them, as I am a Brahmin, but I'm sure your ancestors are pleased with you for your effort and enthusiasm! This is exactly what I needed to know. I am so blessed today that I've been finding this info on youtube, when the idea to check here for it never came to mind lol. I wanted to know what people do with the food after leaving the offerings. So far I've only been leaving fruit. Like a plum, a peach, an apple, and weekly at that, this is such a clever idea. And seeing the way you did it, you fixed the food right from your plate, I think I'll do that, fix my food first then of that food I'll take out the offering to my ancestors, now you say daily? That sounds like a lot but I think I can make that work as well, I just need to get everything else in order before I start. I need to really clean this room, and I have an idea for an alter but I don't think the space is big enough after seeing yours and watching another video for a "basic introduction setup." The Gods and incarnations/avatars all preached vegetarianism in the scriptures, for multiple reasons. That is why most religious Hindus are vegetarian. Remember Hinduism is the world's oldest religion. Most Eastern religions preach vegetarianism. Abrahamic religions, which are far newer in origin, are very different in thought.

She said she was terrified and afraid and never did it again. Since then, she’s unable to stay in her home. Spirits don’t even want her children in her home. She says she sees things and people. This practice is not a symbolic gesture. Imagine if you lived with children and one day you got sick and the best you could do was tell them that you love them, but that you would not be able to feed them that day. They may be mature enuf to "understand", but that won't stop them from raiding the refrigerator and cupboards and making a mess. Maybe even begging from the neighbors. I wouldn’t. I feel like they take all the energy from it and it’s really not beneficial to you afterwards. I’d make my food separate. Toss theirs out after it’s been sitting for a day or when I feel they’re done. They usually tell you.

During slavery we were forced to eat low vibrational foods...And has become the norm in current every day life. Time to change how we eat and Change how we offer our ancestors the opportunity to High vibrational foods and lift them up!!!

So informative Coach Khayr! It's helping me clarify how this process done. In our MM Facebook group, I hear so much about feeding our ancestors but didn't have clarity on what to give them. I'm learning that it takes research to find out what they like, hence, what that may not like. It's a process for sure. I can imagine they can pull from our energy if they aren't getting fed. Also, is this a daily lifestyle to fix them a fresh plate, as we eat everyday?

@OyiSun Did you ever make the video??? I'd really like to know! Thank you for your video. You inspired me to fix them a plate. Papa Legba told me this morning that he wanted Candy. So I bought snicker bars. Then, I watched your video. And I fixed a separate plate of rice and meat, with salad. I covered both with cling wraps.

Hi, I'm glad I came across your page. I now know what to do with the food on the altar. Can you answer one question for me. What does it mean to have substance in the water on the altar. ex: like a floating pod. I have cleaned the glass every week and put fresh water in the glass. I say no longer before the week is over. It formed the same pattern of substance. Sorry to bother you about this. I just thought to ask the question. Thank you for your message!

We now realize when we feed our bodies we feed our Ancestors ,they are in our Dna and speak in form of thoughts , spirits have no need of food or hunger , we must seek them within n not externalize them

External representation of an internal process. I don’t see anything wrong with it as long as it’s understood that they are us......and we are them. Plain and simple. 😊

brook gretchen taylor the food is not physically eaten and will disappear like. When we eat it but it dehydrates or breaks down at a faster rate. Than normal because the ancestors eat the food from the inside out not the outside in.the best example of this look at the asian businesses they have their altars in full view and change out the food and gifts on a frequent basis
