First of all, we can't overstate how skilled they are at the net. It is just plain insane! As for the drills, they seem extremely useful to work on the various skills required to be successful at the net. Some aspects of those drills are obviously designed to best fit the work of a doubles player, but it could likely help anyone work on some offensive tennis even for singles.

Also it's funny to watch my friends, who are great players, struggle with these drills. It's simple stuff but really takes a fine touch and some skill. I tell everybody about these games. Always a good time to try them out.

Great drill contrary to some comments keeping the ball in the serve box and the short strokes on the volley got to help touch and control. Thanks for video

Great hands Tom .. very McEnroe'ish .. that soft angled FH volley as you close to the net is something you rarely see nowadays. Same with the slice FH and BH that stays low and naturally skids if hit with some pace. Miss seeing that kind of tennis.

I guess I have to work more on the continental grip at the net since its often hard to switch from forehand to backhand quickly. However I have difficulty with the continental grip since my wrist is not so flexible, plus I have a relatively heavy racket (10.7 unstrung) and not a quick as my previous light racket. Looks like these guys used only the continental grip in the beginning but later often switch to fore or backhand grips for volleys.

If they switched grips (I did not see it) they wouldn't switch away from continental for volleys.

Tom, I notice you have a 2-hander but you taught one of your student a one-hander. Was it her preference? Just curious.
@TomAllsopp

I thought the variety in the womens game, especially for a smaller girl would be advantageous,and using one hand would encourage that style of play.
@didanhtennis
10 жыл бұрын
Excellent, I see that the one-hander in the men's/boys' tennis is becoming a dying breed nowadays. Why don't people choose variety over power in the men's game? One-hander can generate tremendous power as well with proper techniques. Your thought on this, please. Thanks
@TomAllsopp
9 жыл бұрын
didanhtennis why don't people choose it?... Because its harder to get results until you're fully developed I'd say!?
@didanhtennis
9 жыл бұрын
Reasonable answer, but I believe the one-hander has a better game because of more variety if a person is patient enough to work hard to get the proper techniques.
