the brass gauge is for setting ignition gap its non magnetic so it doesn't stick and give a false reading workes extremely well on small engines with magnetic field excited ignition modules

Excellent video. I learned a lot about feeler gauges that I was not aware of. Thank you for sharing.

The thick .035 gage is on the top side instead of being at the bottom so it will protect the very thin gages .0015 when closing and opening the set.

The brass filler gauges are to keep from magnetizing electrical points when you check the gap.

Oh well, I just came back from Harbor Freight having bought one of their Feeler Gauges to check the gap in a sewing machine. It's good to know to keep'em well oiled at least!

I'm researching as I'm not a gunsmith but need to remedy a headspace issue on a Heritage Rough Rider 22LR, it's out of the one year warranty and it would be cost prohibitive to send it in or even have a local gunsmithing repair it... so to the internet I went. lol... Thanks for sharing n' God bless brother

Do you find any of these to be less accurate?

How thick is the stack of gauges in the Harbor Freight feeler gauge set? Like the overall thickness (tallness?) of all the gauges piled up.

I'm trying to figure out how to store them and keep them clean. I will buy a set and the next time I go to use them they're unreadable. Or maybe there is a way to clean them up without taking off the numbers.

Does spraying with WD40 work for "keeping well oiled"?

Try the WD40 Specialist Long Term Corrosion inhibitor. It works VERY well for this kind of thing.

they could be used for guitars and other stringed instruments in setting string clearances, but you would have to clean the oil off then and keep them dry.so they dont rust

If you don't have the right thickness then just stack two thinner ones together that add up to the correct size.

Did you measure them with a professional tool? How would you know if there was a problem?
