This poem was one of many that served as the inspiration for new musical works commissioned by Shelter Music Boston for the Voices of Hope Artistic Project. The poets are members of the Black Seed Writers Group, a Boston based meet-up of writers who are homeless, in transition, or recently housed, led by James Parker of The Atlantic.
"Feeling Lost" is from a collection of poems that inspired the work "Copper" by composer Xavier Ben

I’m feeling lost,
but I’m not feeling stuck.
I’m not stuck.
I want to be found,
but I’m not hiding.
I think about where I’ve been
and where I might go.
I think about a woman I met
and wonder if she’ll find me.
Feeling lost isn’t a good feeling
and, in times like this,
I ask God to find me.
I’ve been lost many times
and I’ve always found my way out.
This time is no different.
I’ll be found again
and the cycle will continue.
Feeling lost
is a phase one goes through on occasions. I’m sure God will find me through it. Yes, today I’m feeling lost -
but tomorrow is another day.
