Yes, very quiet in general. He can be extremely loud if he wants to -- he can shriek with the best of them, especially if he is feeling neglected or wants his breakfast and I'm not up yet -- but his natural state is very quiet, with a few mumbles here and there.

To everyone who keeps asking what's wrong with his beak, the answer is nothing. That's what a peeling beak looks like. My blue-head's looks almost identical and has since I got him and he's 10 years old now :)

If this is as mad and as loud as a Pionus gets. Then know one would want to hear a Quaker, Sun Conure, or Umbrella Cocktoo pissed off...(g)

He is a Blue-headed Pionus (Pionus menstruus is the species' full name). Not a conure, though he looks a lot like one -- he's a bit bigger.

Clipped wings is highly abusive to ANY domesticated parrot. You get a minus 5 for that.

They are probably referring to the pink parts that are naturally occurring on BHPs beaks. If she didn't know it was supposed to be there she might be seeing it as a sore or a wound. Anyway, beautiful bird and kudos to you for the avian light in the background! I guy was a joy to watch. I have a Hahns Macaw named Scottie Rotten who is true to his name and he acts much like yours does. Thanks for the video.

I just reviewed the beginning of the video -- the only things I see are the normal pink color on either side, as well as a bit of food stuck to the front. He is a messy eater, I must say.

A peeling beak is usually a sign that they are healthy. It means that it is actively growing, because it gets enough vitamins. The surface gets worn down, and also sheds naturally, due to the constantly growing beak. It is just more visible on some species than others
