Fela Ransome Kutti and His Koola Lobitos.

Now now now!!! This was Fela Kuti with the band he put together in London..the Koola Lobitos! This was 3 years before he went to Ghana in 1968. Any Fela fan would recognise his music and artistry immediately! Ghanaian music fans like to regurgitate an erroneous narrative that Fela got his Afrobeat music from them! This sets the record straight! Because nobody in Ghana played music like this, before, during and after Fela’s lifetime!

This is when Fela was still trying himself out. This is more Jazzy and Calypso-like feel to it. Though at the start it was so Highlife like and sound like a Bobby Benson.

This brings back my nights at the cool cats inn as a 12 year old boy in Lagos, and the only way to get in , was to help with the musicians instruments into the club. The track i would love to hear is Aya wa ni ese lofe.
