That is a beautiful sound. You dont hear church bells being rung in the US anymore. I was in the Philippines last summer and they still ring the bells each Sunday for Mass......At 3:50 your camera focuses on one of the stained glass windows. Is that Martin Luther at the center?

It is, yes. Many people though confuse him with the American Martin Luther King. When the church was built back in 1912, Luderitz was known as the Grey Town next to the sea. Today the buildings have all kinds of different colours, but back then the buildings were brown or grey. So, with the church they wanted something beautiful and colourful. As you saw in the video, the colours in the windows really come out at that time of day. We haven't had that many services here either, just two for the whole year. Not sure yet if we're going to have a Christmas sermon. Heck, not sure about you, but I'm not really feeling it this year, at least not yet. Normally each Saturday we ring the bells for Sunday. It's a German tradition we have here. Though, for most of year because of lockdown the church was closed for months. Only in the last few weeks did we slowly start opening again for the few people that do get here from outside the country. To get in you need a negative test result that's less than 72 hours old. If it's older than 72 hours, sorry, can't come in.

The Felsenkirche (literally Rock Church) is built on top of a rocky outcrop or hill in Luderitz, Namibia.

It's called DiamantenBerg or Diamond Mountain in German. It's part of a metamorphic belt that stretches from Cape Town almost all the way to Windhoek, and from here almost to Keetmanshoop. That's just what's still preserved and is called the Namaqua-Natal Metamorphic belt and is about 1 billion years old.

Well they were made back in 1910/11. The motors themselves are newer. Back in that time they used these ropes to ring them.

The church and the church bells are beautiful. It’s only a pity that this church probably has a female bishop which sanctifies lgbt marriages.

We don't. See, there are 40 members in this church, and because of that we don't have a permanent pastor. He normally comes in every two months from Windhoek or Swakopmund.
