I won't be surprise of how massive mariah carey's impact and influence to singers nowadays, with all the things she does with her voice, the complete control of the whistle register, the vocal breaks, melodic, fast and perfect vocal runs and riffs, the support and resonance, the seemless transitions in any register, the cloudy low notes, the beautiful whisper voice, continous and supported high phrased belt, great vibrato, she even raps in some of her songs, the changes in her voice in each of the eras of her career made it more colorful and unique, her raspy voice is such a rare and beautiful sound, her songwriting doesn't even get enough credits because it's overshadowed by her voice which caughts everyone's attention. Her worst vocal days may be the best vocal days for other singers!

Litterally every singer of the past 30 years nominates Mariah as inspiration. She has popularized the whistle register, the melisma, the vocal layering, the Christmas songs, the remix, the collaborations between singers and rappers, everything that exists in music now has been influenced by Mariah Carey. Her impact is unparalleled because it concerns many aspects from a vocal point of view, she uses every part of her voice, every technique, but also from a musical point of view, the fact that in her career unlike older generation singers like Aretha she has sung every possible genre and she is prominent in different genres R&B, pop, hip hop, Christmas songs and so on... and the fact that a she is more an international artist makes her influence in the music world wider. Even Soyiang from Korea calls Mariah her teacher and the best vocalist ever. Mariah's unparalleled influence is also given by the fact that she's the complete package, (vocalist, songwriter, producer, composer) so even a songwriter, even a producer or a complete artist can be inspired by her, it's not just about the vocal side. It's also her artistry that makes the difference. Her singing style has inspired the entire school of American Idol, every singer who participates to American Idol, or also to X factor has Mariah as an idol, Leona Lewis for example, there is even a category of American Idol called the Mariahs. L.A Reid himself said that Mariah Carey is the most influential artist. Plus she is still alive, so she doesn't yet "benefit" from the "legendary status" and the great fame that comes when you're no longer with us. She is BIG but will get even BIGGER in the future. So I say Mariah

Mariah Carey; she's an icon, most of the singing style, vocal skills, harmonies, melodies, producing and even songwriting inspired by her for 30 years and still ongoing. 1. Her melisma (riffs and runs) most singers tends to follow her ways of melisma [jhud, bey, xtina, jojo, whitney, normani, tori etc] 2. Her belt notes (freely skills with techniques and placement) [most singers] 3. Her mixed voice (how balance she does) most singers learned from her [if not most then all mixed singers' skill] 4. Her low falsetto/head voice (something that really hard to do) inspired of low falsetto that singers nowadays done [britney, ari, selena, taylor, olivia, tori, rihanna, bey] 5. Her low chesty register (how her hitting those low notes) singers learned lot from her low [jhud, adele, lady gaga, jojo, selena, ari, olivia] 6. Her TONE DEPTH (how she resonance and define the notes she be hitting so detail) [most singers try it but not reaching her levels imo] 7. Her whistle register (well we all know this one) [every whistlers except minnie coz she came before her] 8. Her upper belts (freely resonance non pushy effortless) sustained and inspired [most freely singing skills] 9. Her transitions (switching over register? she popularize it) [she is the queen of transitions] 10. Sensual/sexy tone (she does that a lot, sounds flirty, sexy and all) [britney, rihanna, selena, beyonce, ari n more] 11. Her ad libs (she is one of the singers that has most popularize it) [she is the Master of this] 12. Crossing genre (singing in hip hop and pop) [she is the first who popularize] 13. Crossing instrument and vocals (one of the first popular usage of classical instrument with strong pop sounds; hero, without you) even Make It Happen is a gospel song singing in rapping skills with pop vocals with the soul and the classical plays add with rnb n soul harmonies, jazzy skills in pop ballads with classical, latin/indie singing with pop ballads with classical [thats what we hear nowadays how a lot of different types of plays in different genre of vocals] 14. Her melodies (catchy sounds, groovy and jazzy, sultry, powerful) [taylor, katy, ari, xtina, bey] 15. Her dynamics (well no need to explain) 16. Her harmonies (not just a lead vocals, background is also her things) [she one of the first who popularize this] 17. Lots of words (most singers inspired by her coz before her there wasnt much singer use lot of bars and words in a phrase) [taylor swift, adele, beyonce] 18. Her emotions (how she sings by heart) 19. Her remix skills (she is the queen of remixes) 20. Her christmas (well....) Not just female pop singers inspired by her, males also inspired such sam smith, charlie, both justin, bruno, adam etc. and even most of rappers such nicki, cardi b, m&m etc. her impacts just undeniably talented, if not one of the most impactful then she is the most impactful in music industry for 3 decades.

A lot of Bey's "rapping" is more fast staccato singing, which she started doing as a teenager in 90s Destiny's Child and it's quite difficult. Considering how prevalent the vocal style has become for Pop & R&B singers (both male and female) in the last 20 years, I'd say that's definitely the most influential thing about her vocally.

Fun fact: Belting as we know it in the United States, unsurprisingly comes from the African American community. White vaudeville singers in the 1920's begin including "belting" in their performances in very stereotypical roles to mock black singers like The GOAT Bessie Smith & Ma Rainey. It wasn't until white entertainers such as Ethel Merman, who started "belting" on Broadway, that it was deemed somewhat acceptable. They then begin inserting it into musicals & that set the stage for "belting" to become a benchmark in singing. Funny how that's been the same story for a lot of things in the music industry, right? 🙃

@@nyehweh She's an incredible lyricist, she had wonderful improv skills, very jazz inspired. Her musical interpretive wit was fantastic. Unfortunately, she wasn't comfortable on the stage. I like this video. It is mostly very well justified and I enjoy that. But but only when it comes to vocal characteristics. Singing style-wise, I don't agree with everything. I wouldn't say Bey was inspired by Aretha.... Aretha did inspire Whitney's pre-record deals singing and the soundtrack of the Preacher's Wife, Patti Labelle, Christina, Jennifer Hudson people who when they sing are 100% involved into the song, and care less about how technically great is their singing.... I see a lot of Whitney in Beyonce vocally: perfect vibrato, volume control, growls and head voice. Bey's tone lightens though when she sings the high belts, something that never happened with Whitney. Bey is the perfectionists of this list and the best female visual performer of all time probably. But if she would be inspired from artists like Etta James and Aretha she'd go out there with a simple outfit, a spotlight, and pour her heart out.. which unfortunately she cannot. Maybe it is that her songs don't have much soul, I can't say. Also, I do find Christina's vocals way more powerful than Mariah's, more beefy, full tone, and she said it that she was inspired by whitney's power. What christina took from Mariah was definitely the melismatic singing that is Mariah's signature. It is hard to find influences with singers that have the most unique tone such as Toni Braxton... She may love whitney, but I find Toni's singing closer to Anita Baker (compare another sad love song and Sweet love ). Also Christina's tone is unmatched.. you need to hurt your voice to produce a tone that comes close to hers. She sings in an emotional and fearless way like Etta, her belts are full tone like Whitney's, she incorporates melisma from Mariah, soul like Otis Redding and Aretha (especially in cigarettes and coffee when Otis goes crazy in the song, and when aretha tells one of the most beautiful stories in Ain't no way ) and then suddenly, we hear her doing jazz like Sarah and Nina.. She can also tore it down like James Brown.... I mean, I spend hours a day discovering new artists and new music, but haven't yet encountered another singer (male or female) with more colors, textures to their tone to be able to jump from one genre to another and own it! She did pasillo recently, and the latin world had a shock. It seems like she has studied her voice through the records of the greats rather than through singing and this is phenomenal. Now I understand why every legend wants her to do a tribute for them. I wish one day she would do a tribute to Toni Braxton as a grown woman (not like a kid back in the micky mouse club times)... also she could nail Mariah's most emotional song (and one of my faves) Outside.

But during all of 2000's and 2010's a lot of very different singer singing in french took the level up and inspiring big names in United-states. I suggest you a fews names you could like :) ( of course are ultimates mermaids Céline , Lara Mylène Farmer is on another level trust me loll , Shy'm, Yelle , Zaz , Stromae , Coeur de Pirates , Ariane Moffat , Marie-Mai , Garou , Bruno Pelletier , Diane Dufresne , Génération Goldman album ...

I have no problems with the two Trinity members, but Céline Dion MUST be among them because of her piercing resonance, great agility, power & clarity. I believe she's the best among the Trinity in terms of vocal preservation. I've read tons of webpages or so-called vocal analytic videos downgrading her vocals to "A-", well below Beyoncé & Lady Gaga. Besides, Lisa Fischer & Rochelle Ferrell are technically the best vocalists of all time, with Barbra Streisand. More often, people simply judge a singer's capabilities by his/her popularity only.
