Had this bass defretted , mounted fretless strings , bridge lowered , straightened the neck , sounds almost like an upright . Round sound , EQ shapes any sound you need . Loud enough if played along with a quiet guitar , ok against 2 guitars (flatwounds remember ?) providing they don't play too loud . You can use a pick to be heard if they strum their guitars loudly or a cajon joins in . Neck is a joy , plays like a dream like an ibanez , chords no problems , love playing walking basslines on it , sooo nice ! I filed the wooden bridge to allow the plastic saddle to go even lower , set thd neck almost straight leaving a little arch space between strings and fretboard to get that fretless sound , action can't go too low or it would buzz . I prefer a bit of string resistance and tension if i need a certain double bass sound /technique . I wish it was a shorter scale , bit of a stretch to reach the first fret , i overcome it by placing the bass on my right leg . It comes alive when plugged in , i eq it to my liking (tends to be very bassy and midrangy , easily compensated with its 3 band EQ . Good tuner and on board preamp controls . Well made , tuning pegs hold really well . You can play any styles even fast and dynamically . Overall excellent instrument , really happy with it , price is a steal , sounds beautiful . Needed one for practice/quick rehearsal before jumping on stage . A new addition in my sound arsenal .

What are the strings - metal or nylon (like in a normal acoustic guitar)? Also do you get calluses playing electric bass guitars? Maybe that would depend on how long you have been playing or how long each practice session is? Thanks.

I highly recommend playing an acoustic bass to eliminate fret and buzz noises , practice on it , you'll be glad you did . Did not like factory setup . Too stiff to play fluidly , it deters potential buyers . Adjust the truss rod and lower the bridge , et voilá , you get yourself a fantastic bass , love mine
