Hi John, nice review as always. Comprehensive and informative. Picked one up for £70, like new. Not usually a fan of modelling amps, but this is excellent. All usable tones and easy to manipulate without a degree in astrophysics... I've split the output and put a patch cable in so I can use it with other speakers. Sounds great through the vintage Celestion in my Peavey Pacer (Lovely clean amp, but heavy and difficult to control at low volume in the house). The best though is the Harley Benton 112 cabinet. Picked one up for £40 still boxed. This sounds fantastic through it. Warm and clean. Very light as well. I don't know what speaker they have in there but it's excellent. For £66 brand new? Got to be the bargain of the century! I can heartily recommend it. Other mods: White chicken head knobs. Maybe my eyesight's failing, but even in daylight I had trouble seeing the settings and because the knobs are so close together I found my hand obscured the face. I may also have a fix for that annoying thump when you power it off. Got the parts on order and I'll let you know if it works...

Hi John. I have one of these amps. I was surprised you didn't mention the tap tempo option nor the ranges of amp modelling. I wasn't quite sure whether you went through the various red/yellow/green options for each of the parameters. You're right about that 'Crack!' when you turn off - it's fierce but that does seem to be a feature of many small amps. Overall, I'd say this is one of the best small amps I've had and it's the one I've kept. Obviously, no-one is going to buy this if they like to move quickly and easily between FX, that's what pedals are for. However, for just setting a favourite 'baseline' effect, I find the FC20 to be ideal. It's excellent for very small venues or as a practice amp. The Gain control is effective unless you're into real grunge. In which case ,buy a pedal! The facility to use earphones is very handy and isn't always provided as an option. Over the years, I've used amps where the controls are on top of an amp, often in a recessed part of the cabinet. Amps with controls that are easily accessible and visible from the front are, in my opinion, vastly superior in terms of design. Good review as ever, but worth mentioning the tap tempo if you ever return to it.

Excellent demo. I've never liked those dial-style FX controls for the reason that you mention. The Fender 20 seems to try to pack in more combinations than usual - and not always successfully. The Vibrato seemed very muddy without sparkle although the cry baby wah sounded pretty good and tremolo was reasonable

from my view point the reverb is its best feature. 60 years ago I was waking past the town hall in Campbelltown and heard the most beautiful sound. I now know it was a reverb soaked Strat and have ever after been seeking that sound. Trouble is, I am not that keen on single coils.

These are great little amps that pack a punch. Way too often folks get amps that are too big/loud for what they need. I'm a bedroom warrior and this amp sings. I don't need a half stack! I tend to use the 65 Deluxe amp voice the most and go back and forth between Spring Reverb and Slap Delay. Sometimes Tremolo.

Thank you John for this review. I saw you recorded from the headphones out. Can you share some information about your set up. Do you use any special cables (TRS or TS or Y cable insert). I was thinking about if this is usable when taking lessons online through an audio interface so the other person can hear the amp. Thanks again for a great channel and take care. Greetings from Sweden.

As you noted Bjorn there is a mini jack lead going to the Tascam. There it goes into a 1/4" headphone adaptor and is half inserted into the input of the Tascam. This often is the case when stereo meets mono. In the production stage of the video I use the Tascam's recording from the guitar and fade out the volume from the Zoom camera. This eliminates any acoustic sound coming from the guitar. Thanks for commenting.

Sorry if this has been covered before, but I was wondering what camera / mic you use for your vids? The picture and sound are great! Especially for what looks like a 1 person operation. Thanks!

I am using a Zoom Q2n. There is a newer model out now the Q4n which is just a little over £200. Once I have the sound wave I edit it with Adobe Audition. The spoken parts are much lower in volume than either an acoustic or the amp so I need to boost those sections. I try to remember to not let my voice and the guitar overlap as that makes editing easier. To master the video I am using Magix Video Easy.

I'm thinking about getting this amp. I've been playing only acoustic guitar for the past year and a half and I'm wanting to move to electric. I would like to play wearing headphones so I don't annoy my family/roommates with my mediocre playing. How do you recommend I should go about this? Can I plug headphones directly into this amp? Would that be a good thing to do or should I try something different? I'm completely new to electric guitar playing, so I want to make sure I know what I'm doing before I run to Guitar Center. Thanks!

Get it, set it to the Princeton setting (Blackface, amber light), volume and treble on 5, gain on 3, bass on 4.Throw in a mild distortion or a tube screamer if you have one and voila.

It is quite versatile so there will be some setting which will suit the HSS style guitar.
