I'm not usually big on artist models, but this has some real personality to it. Way nastier than the standard Tele Deluxe, that's for sure. And the color is fire.

If I had 2 G's laying around, I would certainly get this guitar. I might just retrofit my current tele with the kingfish pickups.

I finally had the chance to compare this to the American Professional II and American Vintage II Deluxe models, playing all 3 back to back. First of all, the video is correct, the color looks absolutely amazing in real life. The pickups do not have the split-capability of the Pro II model, but they clearly sound worlds better than those, especially into a mid-scooped amp. Can't really say something useful about the pickups in the AV II Deluxe, since I found them to sound awful, but they are supposed to be vintage correct, and if that's the case, so be it. (Just to be clear, I am talking about the AVII Deluxe Tele only, the pickups in the 50s and 60s standard teles in the AVII line are quite awesone.)

Garland TX in the crowd, I dig the color that's dang close to TCU colors, Horn Frog purple, but it ain't a Strat even though I'm a Fender loyalist, I prefer the pedigree original, I wouldn't say no to a Strat that color

The Tele that wants to be a Les Paul?

That's what I was going to say. It's basically a Les Paul, in reference to the bridge, humbuckers and volume/tone controls. Don't forget the pickup switch knob placement, and the fact that it is not a blade. I love the color but hate how the pickguard hides most of the body.

@@kevingamboa9420 We definitely agree about the pickguard. It's massive.

Except it feels and sounds completely different due to the pickups. I have the Kingfish pickups installed in my Ibanez Joe Satriani and it sounds the same as this Telecaster but different physical housing of course. This demo wasn't a very good showcase of the sounds the Kingfish guitar/pickups can do.

I thought it has a V neck
@tarpley-music

That was a definitely a pronunciation error. It’s based on a V neck, but it feels like Fender has definitely taken some liberty with the term “V Shape” in their specs for the guitar. It’s not a hard V, because it’s very chunky.

Great model and I almost went for it, but the truth is as others have said: It's Fender's best attempt at a Les Paul. Problem is, no matter what Fender does, the company can never make a humbucker that sounds as fat and gnarly as the Les Paul that I've already got.

The thing is in the differences more than the similarities. A tele deluxe will have greater tuning stability than an LP. The 25.5 scale is more snappy than 24.75 at pitch. It's a matter of different tension. Do they both have a hotter pickup compliment that a single coil equipped guitar? Sure! Are they less noise prone? You betcha. Back in the day, they were also meant to push the front end of an amp harder. In a modern context, there are so many ways to get distortion of many different varieties. It's really a matter of subtle differences anymore. At this point, you're talking about the difference between a truck and a car that are both powered by a 350 small block. There's still a ton of difference even if the engine is about the same.
