People who demand the lowest common denominator in measurement don't understand that the denominator indicates the measurement tolerance - tolerance for 1/8 is plus or minus 1/16th, tolerance for 1/16th is plus or minus 1/32, and the tolerance for 1/64th is plus or minus 1/128th. Tolerance is acceptable variation in a measurement. 4/64ths is a more precise measurement than 1/16th because the tolerance for 4/64ths is only 1/128ths.
