I just bought an 88 MIJ with same trem. Thanks for your vid, I lucked out but your examination was helpful as I looked mine over. I saw another vid and learned how to make the trem work and get in tune. Mine also had a drop/chip like yours. Can't wait to watch the rest of vids and see how she ends up.

Here is my guess on the reason why all these bolts are destroyed : most of them are in imperial measure. For example, the bolts on the locking nut are 3/32". My guess is that the owner was living in Europe and only had metric tools, in millimeters and not in inches. This is why the bolts were "modified" so that a simple screwdriver would fit. Apparently, it did not work very well...

Michael Baudin That is quite possible. Seeing how the owner's sweat ate away at the poly finish, that might have contributed to some metal fatigue as well. Or maybe the guy just didn't have the right tool. The guitar definitely has some history - wish it could tell me where its been and how everything happened! Thanks for your comment.

That's a good guess but I have the same tremolo and you can buy also in Europe these inch wrench that what I did and works fine. Just don't understand why people destroy it because I hey don't have the right tools. Pitty

I have the same bridge system on my Fender Prodigy and the pegs on the bridge are slotted and the bridge does indeed suck.
